What do black numbers on cars mean, cars with black numbers

On the roads of the Russian Federation, you can see a large number of vehicles, the license plates of which are a black rectangle with white symbols printed on it. If you see such a car in front of you, then this can mean one of two things:

  • numbers of the old registration, which were used in the days of the USSR;
  • the car belongs to the fleet of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.

Old "Soviet" numbers can be used if they are in good condition. They are subject to replacement only in cases where the car is re-registered to a new owner or the symbols have become unreadable over time. Thus, if you have a car left from those times, and everything is fine with the registration, then the traffic police inspector does not have the right to demand the replacement of registration plates.

If the car belongs to the armed forces, then by license plates you are unlikely to understand which region the car belongs to. This number consists of three parts:

  • four-digit number - the immediate number of the vehicle;
  • letter designation - type of troops;
  • code - the type of troops or region.

It is worth noting that in order to disguise such numbers are made on a non-reflective background. On special equipment, motorcycles, trailers, numbers on a black background also cling, and the shape corresponds to civilian formats.

To decipher such numbers, you need to open special tables that indicate the meaning of certain codes located on the right side of the number. For example:

  • code 10 - the car belongs to the department of the Federal Security Service of the FSB;
  • 12 - border guards;
  • 23 - rocket troops;
  • 34 - Air Force;
  • 45 - Navy.

Some codes may also indicate that the car belongs to a particular military district:

  • 43 - LenVO;
  • 50 - Moscow Military District;
  • 76 - Ural district;
  • 87 - Siberian Military District.

Cars with such numbers are given priority only if they are equipped with blue or red “flashing lights”, which are allocated to vehicles accompanying a convoy of military equipment or motorcades of military leadership vehicles. In all other cases, they are fully subject to the rules of the road.
