What is DSAGO? – extended OSAGO insurance

Since under the OSAGO policy the maximum amount of insurance payments is limited to 400 thousand rubles, and these funds are often not enough to cover the damage caused to an expensive foreign car or the health of those injured in an accident, another additional insurance for your auto liability was offered - DSAGO.

In fact, DSAGO is an addition to OSAGO. By issuing DSAGO, you can count on the payment of compensation to cover the damage caused by you to the injured party, in the amount of up to 3 million rubles. You can issue DSAGO in the same insurance company where you bought OSAGO, or you can issue it in a completely different company.

The cost of the DSAGO policy is not strictly established and can vary significantly depending on the insurance company and insurance payments. The following factors affect the cost of a DSAGO policy:

  • type of your vehicle;
  • limit of payments in the event of an insured event;
  • the period for which you purchase insurance;
  • car engine power;
  • age and experience of the driver and all other persons included in the policy.

If an insured event occurs, then you can receive compensation under DSAGO only if the OSAGO policy is not able to compensate for all the damage that you caused to the property and health of the injured party.

On average, a DSAGO policy in Russia will cost the car owner in the amount of 500 to 800 rubles. In order to receive payments, the injured party must contact the insurance company of the culprit of the accident, in which he issued the OSAGO policy. After assessing the damage by insurance agents, compensation for OSAGO comes.

Problems can arise if both policies are obtained from different insurance companies, so auto lawyers advise at the scene of an accident to clarify this information during the preparation of the protocol. Then, documents for the car and identity documents, copies of protocols of violation are submitted to the insurance company. The calculation is made by simply subtracting from the total amount of damage the insurance payments received under OSAGO.

To receive these funds, the victim or his representatives must contact the company within 5 days. If the accident happened in remote regions of the Russian Federation, then documents are accepted within 150 days. Only those insured events that are provided for by OSAGO are paid.
