What is an international protection code?
The International Security Code (or IP code as it is commonly called) is a marking that categorizes how well a product is protected against various forms of intrusion.
For a waterproof inspection camera, the IP code indicates how much contact with water or liquid the device can withstand.
Without this information, the user could cause unnecessary damage to the camera head by submerging it too deep underwater.
The IP code consists of the letters "IP" followed by two digits (in some cases, the digits are followed by an optional letter).
The first digit indicates the level of protection against solid particles such as dust and sand.
The second number refers to the level of protection against liquids such as water. For example, if a waterproof inspection camera is coded IP67, the number 7 tells the user how much liquid the device can handle.
Each model of the security camera can have a different level of protection. This information will be provided by the manufacturer in the product manual, so always check the IP code before use. Below is a table showing the standard level of liquid protection that each number represents.
