What is a punch saw?
The piercing saw, often referred to as a jeweler's saw, is essentially a smaller version of the coping saw.
Just like a copier saw, a punch saw has a U-shaped frame and a removable blade. The only difference is that a punch saw is generally smaller than a coping saw, and blades suitable for it are usually thinner and have more teeth per inch.
As a result, a piercing saw is capable of producing thinner cuts, tighter curves and a neater finish. A punch saw can be used in much the same way as a copier or jigsaw, but great care must be taken not to damage the thin blade. There are blades that can cut wood, plastic and metal.
Some piercing saws have adjustable frames to accommodate blades of different lengths.
Why is it also called a jewelry saw?
The punch saw is often used by jewelers for very fine work on metal. |
