What is an adjustable mount?

	The modern design adjustable mount features a grip that can be adjusted up to 180° and fixed at the desired angle. Some models have a retractable stem allowing the user to extend or shorten the stem by up to 315 mm (12.5 inches).
	This type of shank has a round shank for ease of use and production economy, and has a handle rather than a second claw or tip; some handles are ribbed for extra grip.
	The claw is curved to reduce the risk of damage to object surfaces when levering and peeping. However, due to the lack of a nail slot or nail puller, it cannot be used to remove nails.
	The adjustable foot makes this shank very versatile for a range of light lever and lever operations; since you will be able to adjust to a straight or curved claw, there is no need for a second claw.
	Sharp angled claws can be used for lifting and retrieving objects in tight spaces, as well as increasing the lever angle where needed.
	Grippers adjusted at obtuse angles can be used to retrieve objects more gently when less force is required, or to lift and move objects only a short distance.
	The retractable stem allows the user to increase and decrease the length of the stem. Because a longer stem provides more leverage, lengthening the stem will make leverage and prying much easier (see: A note about leverage and length). Retracting the shaft will give the user more control over the bar; perfect for precise use.
	Adjustable jaws with non-extensible shafts are available in 250-380mm (10-15") lengths and extendable models are available in 600mm (23.5") plus 315mm (12.5") available extension.
	Non-extensible barbells can weigh from 370 to 580 g (13 oz to 1.3 lb). The retractable model weighs 2.05 kg (4 lb 8 oz).
	In comparison, this means that the lightest adjustable scratching post weighs as much as a standard computer mouse...
	…while the largest weighs about the same as four pints of milk and a can of lemonade…
	… and the expandable model weighs as much as a packaged whole chicken.
What are adjustable mounts made of?
	Adjustable pry bars are forged from chrome vanadium steel, a type of steel alloy that contains carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, silicon, chromium, and vanadium. It can also be called "chrome vanadium steel".
	The presence of chromium and vanadium in the alloy makes the steel more hardenable - this means that it can be hardened (made more rigid) to a greater extent than some other steels.
	The advantage of chromium is that it helps resist abrasion, oxidation and corrosion, while the addition of carbon (found in most steel alloys) improves elasticity.
	The improved elasticity counters the brittleness that can result from hardening the steel and means the tool is more likely to bend than break under excessive force - much safer for the user.
What are adjustable mounts covered with?
	The adjustable mounts shown here are phosphate coated for corrosion protection. This is a type of crystalline conversion coating that can be applied to ferrous metals such as alloy steels and is applied before any other coating or painting.
	A crystalline conversion coating uses a solution that reacts naturally with the surface of a metal object. In this case, a mixture of phosphoric acid and phosphate salts is applied to the surface of the tool by spraying or immersion in a bath, forming a crystalline layer of phosphates that cannot be dissolved or washed off.
	Phosphate coating itself is porous and will not prevent rust or corrosion unless sealed with oil or other sealant after application. If the tool is marketed as corrosion resistant and phosphate coated, a different sealant must be applied to the surface of the tool.
