What is an adjustable breaking beam?
Content
Adjustable break rods are a relatively new design and feature a curved claw that can be adjusted to any of nine claw angle settings. This allows users to set the angle of the grip in relation to the shaft to 180 degrees of available adjustment without changing the angle of the grip itself, which includes a fixed angle bend of approximately 100 degrees. The claw of the adjustable impact bar is attached to the shaft with a ring gear. To adjust the claw, the ring gear is loosened by turning to the left and tightened when the desired angle is reached by turning to the right. (See: How do I adjust the adjustable breaker bar claw?)The acutely angled claw can be used for lifting and retrieving objects in tight spaces, as well as increasing the lever angle where needed.A claw adjusted at a blunt angle can be used for softer prying when less force is needed, or for lifting and moving objects only a short distance. In addition, the curved claw has a nail groove bevelled to a very thin inner edge, allowing stubborn nails to be hooked without the need to first lift them up.At the opposite end, the adjustable breaking bar has a chisel-shaped edge bent at a slight angle downwards from the shaft. This gives room for the fingers to rest when using the end of the chisel, minimizing the risk of hitting the knuckles. Two adjustable stems are available, one with a hexagonal stem and the other with an ergonomic stem that has a soft rubber grip and conforms to the shape of the hand.
