What are thermal and ultrasonic inserts?
Content
Thermal and ultrasonic inserts are externally knurled for optimum pull-out resistance.
Devices called ultrasonic emitters and thermal drivers are used to deliver heat as well as vibration to the insert as it advances towards the hole. This melts the plastic and allows the insert to slide down smoothly. The plastic is then returned to the insert, locking it in place.
Thermoplastics can be reshaped after they have been cured, as melting will not permanently deform the plastic.
This process is an ad hoc technique and not really suitable for do-it-yourself purposes. |
