What is a security file?

	Security files are machinist files that are often used by locksmiths. They are named for the shaped keyhole holes that act as a barrier to picking locks, as they are used to both remove burrs and repair them.
	They can also be used to file grooves in the key so that it can fit into the railing.
What are the characteristics of a protection file?
	transverse section Warding files have a thin rectangular cross section.
	Profile and cutout They taper in width towards the tip. They are double cut on both sides and single cut on both edges.
	It is their tapered surfaces and thin profiles that make them ideal for finishing and deburring in the tightest of spaces.
	Size Security files are typically available in lengths from 100mm (4") to 250mm (10").
	Swiss or American? Security files can be either Swiss or American.
