Music from Mozart to techno sounds in almost every car. The car audio market is so rich that you can get lost in the maze of offers. So, what should you pay attention to?
Before installing audio equipment in a vehicle, we must consider what it is intended for. The requirements for the quality of the sound coming from the loudspeakers determine which brand, in what quantity, and - further - the price.
Music every day
If you listen to music only in order not to get bored while driving, then it is enough to install the radio in the car and connect it to the installation (antenna, speakers and cables), which is usually included in the car's standard equipment.
There are several types of players by sound media: cassette players, audio CDs, CD/MP3 players, CD/WMA players. Some combine all of these features, have internal drives, or have the ability to connect external devices such as a flash drive or iPod via USB or Bluetooth. The number of options available, combined with the look of the player, has the biggest impact on price with players in the lowest price range.
Better quality
More demanding customers can install an auto audio kit in the car. The basic one consists of tweeters, midwoofers and a subwoofer (from about PLN 200), a player and an amplifier.
– The truth is that 10-25 percent depends on the player. the quality of the music we listen to in the car. The remaining 75 - 90 percent. belongs to the loudspeakers and the amplifier,” says Jerzy Długosz from Essa, a company that sells and assembles car audio systems.
The tweeters are installed in the A-pillars or on the edge of the dashboard. The midrange speakers are usually mounted in the doors, and the subwoofer in the trunk. He goes there not because the trunk is a good place to carry low sounds, but because only there is room for a subwoofer.
The next step after buying the player is to install the speakers in the car. "src="https://d.motofakty.pl/art/eb/an/pih8z5wggs4c40cck0wwo/4634f8ba91983-d.310.jpg" align="left">
Speaker placement is important because the direction of the sound determines the listening experience. It is best to have the music "play" at eye level or a little higher, as is usually the case in concerts. In the case of car audio systems, this effect is difficult to achieve. It helps to place the tweeters high enough.
With regard to mid-range players, the number of line outputs that allow you to connect speakers and an amplifier, and the way discs are placed in them (inserting directly into the slot, opening the panel) are of great importance.
When choosing an amplifier, you should pay attention to its crossovers and filters, as well as the control range of the latter.
Something for the Audiophile
To justify even the most sky-high expectations regarding sound reproduction in a car is not a problem today. Super-demanding offer their services to specialized car audio companies. They are engaged not only in the assembly of high-quality players, speakers and amplifiers, but also in the complex preparation of cars.
Since the car interior is not a good environment for playing music, special mats, sponges and pastes are used to soundproof and moisten it. They reduce electrical noise, motor noise, ambient noise and chassis resonance. In the case of loudspeakers placed in the door, it is also necessary to create the right sound chamber, which, like a traditional loudspeaker, will properly hold the pressure.
High quality turntables have fully adjustable filters (called crossovers) that separate the sound bands between the speakers at the level of the turntable. In addition, there are digital time processors that allow audio to be delayed by a dozen or so milliseconds for selected speakers and channels. Due to this, sound coming from speakers located at different distances from the listener reaches it at the same time.
In the most expensive players (hi-end), the quality of the components used plays an important role.
As for high quality kit speakers, it is recommended to buy them separately rather than in sets.
Due to the least degradation of sounds, auto audio industry experts recommend listening to music from CDs in audio format. It is uncompressed, therefore, unlike other formats (MP3, WMA,), it retains the highest quality. Compression is the use of the imperfection of human hearing. We don't hear many sounds at all. Therefore, they are removed from the signal, thereby reducing the capacity of the music file. This is especially true for high and low tones. Compression and music recorded with it, especially for people with very sensitive hearing, may, however, be perceived worse.
Amplifier power is the maximum electrical signal power that the amplifier can produce and deliver to the loudspeaker. Speaker power is the maximum electrical signal strength that the speaker can absorb from the amplifier. The power of the speaker does not mean the power with which the speaker will "play" - it is not the acoustic power of the music being played, which is many times less. Even if the loudspeaker has a lot of power, it will not be used without a suitable amplifier. So it makes no sense to buy "strong" speakers if we want to connect them only to the player. The power of the electrical signal it generates is usually weak.
