How to protect your electric bike in winter?

Whether you are an extreme rider or you prefer to store your bike while waiting for the sunny days, there are a few guidelines to follow to preserve the condition of your electric bike and its battery during the winter. Follow the guide !

Prepare your electric bike for the winter

Riding a bike during the winter is very pleasant, but a little more demanding than the rest of the year, as the sub-zero temperatures and the difficult weather require increased vigilance. The ideal is to carry out the annual service of your electrically-assisted bicycle (VAE) at the very beginning of winter. Thus, your specialist will check the condition of the speed pads, tires, braking system, lighting and all cables. You can then drive in complete safety, rain, wind or snow!

Protect your battery from the cold

The electric bicycle battery is sensitive to extreme temperatures. To ensure longevity, avoid leaving it outside when you are not riding. Store it in a dry place at a temperature of around 20 ° C. You can also protect it with a neoprene cover, very useful to mitigate the effects of cold, heat or even shocks.

When it's cold, the battery drains faster, so be sure to recharge it regularly so it doesn't run flat. Charging, like storage, should be done in a room with moderate temperature.

Let your electric battery rest with a full stomach

If you won't ride for several weeks, store your bike away from cold and moisture. Don't leave your battery empty, but don't fully charge it either: 30% to 60% charge is ideal for hibernation. And even if you don't use it, it will gradually discharge, so consider plugging it in once every six weeks or so, for an hour or two.

And you, are you a winter cyclist? Or do you prefer to store your bike until spring?
