Continental: 48-volt system designed for electric bicycles

Seeking to complement its range of e-bike powertrains, Continental will unveil the new 48-volt system at Eurobike in September.

For Continental, 48 volt systems are the future. Although the equipment manufacturer has already developed the technology in the form of hybridization for the car and the Renault Scénic eAssist in particular, it is now attacking the electric bike market.

This new electric bike motor is expected to run from 48 volts at Eurobike in September. Compact, powerful and easy to integrate, it aims to expand Continental's offering in the growing market.

At this time, Continental has not provided many details regarding the technical configuration of its system, other than the fact that it will be a "smart" and "fully automated" device. "With this new innovation, we can optimally meet the needs of our customers." said Jörg Malcherek, marketing manager for the e-bike division of the German equipment manufacturer.
