Cross Polo, cool Volkswagen gadget

You value originality, which requires courage and imagination. You want to see the journey by car from a completely different angle and "light up" on the street. You just have the ability to do so. Volkswagen offers you a car that will bring a smile and recognition even in the eyes of "experts" who are privy to the nuances of off-road driving. Because he will often drive into places where most of your friends' cars don't even look in order not to dust their disks. This is Cross Polo.

Even when you look at the off-road version of the Polo from afar, you immediately notice that this car has a raised (by 15 mm) suspension and seems much larger than the "regular" Polo. Its off-road character is emphasized by wide bumpers, additional lining, chrome moldings, black wheel arches and sills, as well as headlights reminiscent of the puma's menacing look.

I think it was a very good idea to install roof rails on the roof of the Polo, on which you can put a roof rack with a load of up to 75 kg. The off-road version of the smallest Volkswagen is also known for the fact that the upper part of the bumpers and door handles are painted in body color, while the B- and B-pillar trims and window frames are painted black. . I have also learned several times that the lower part of the rear bumper is made of black, extremely durable material. There wasn't a single scratch left on it after encountering a protruding tree branch, which, I'm sure, was shoved behind "my" car only after I put it in reverse gear.

It's time to evaluate the salon. Extremely conservative Volkswagen designers this time finally surprised me. The interior of a perky kid will cheer up even the biggest gloomy child. I can say that the owners of the “regular” Polo will envy the owners of the tested version of two-tone upholstery, sports seats adorned with an embroidered CrossPolo badge, aluminum pedal covers, a three-spoke sports steering wheel trimmed with leather, decorated with orange stitching and a perfectly fitted armrest.

As is the case with other German cars, driving this Polo will have a very readable and painfully simple dashboard. The on-board computer shows travel time, average speed, distance traveled, the number of kilometers that separate us from refueling, average and instantaneous fuel consumption.

Evaluating chairs from a woman's point of view, "great respect" for a wide range of adjustments, or a well-shaped backrest, thanks to which I felt like a pinch when cornering. The world championship lies in the placement of convenient boxes under the seats, ideal for a cache for spare shoes. I am sure that every owner of this car will be delighted with the number of compartments and shelves hidden in the cabin. For example, I was thrown to my knees by the main glove compartment with a pocket for glasses and wide pockets in the front door, which did not require me to buy only drinks in quarter-liter bottles at most. It's great that someone else thought about the drinks compartments in the center console and cell phone shelf. It is a pity that accountants skimp on better plastic.

A trip in this car will also be well remembered by friends sitting in the back. They will also have no problem finding a suitable place for their trinkets, but most of all they will be provided with a comfortable sofa with a high seat. In addition, its asymmetrically divided back not only provides easy access to the trunk, but also increases its capacity from 280 to 952 liters. Thanks to the double trunk floor, the tried and tested Polo Cross proved to be perfect when I needed to haul 10 birthday cakes.

Polo Cross is available with four engines to choose from:

petrol: 1.4 (85 hp) and 1.2 TSI (105 hp) and diesel: 1.6 TDI (90 and 105 hp). The tested version was equipped with a 1.6 TDI engine with 105 hp, demanding even at high speeds. If you forget about it, then it will lead you to the cobbler's passion, disappearing at crossroads. After several days of testing in various conditions, I can assure you that although this unit did not make a rocket out of “my” Polo, it allows you to effectively move both on the highway and around the city.

The manual transmission is not as fast as I could imagine, but sure. I immediately warn you that driving this Volkswagen you should not count on new acquaintances at gas stations. It's just that the owner of this version of Polo will be a very rare guest there. The regular start/stop system with the system of informing about the choice of the optimal gear allows you to go below the limit of 4 l/100 km. .

The Polo Cross is, of course, not just a city touring vehicle or a dirt road vehicle. This is a car that can inspire a new way of looking at road travel from a previously unknown perspective. My race involved driving through an abandoned gravel pit, where I went with a friend to test the orange kid's ambitions in the field. She hit her head hard when I pulled out onto the thick gravel road, but I bet she hasn't had as much fun as she did during my pirouettes in a long time. She squealed with delight as, without the slightest stutter, our orange baby raced over time through tall grass meadows or climbed steep hills.

I will only add that the electric power steering works very easily, and the rather springy suspension makes the car move confidently and allows you to dynamically take turns. On the other hand, if I were to point out the disadvantages, I would put low profile tires in the first place. So what, they look great, but they do not allow you to carelessly ride off-road. They are easy to pierce. What the Polo doesn't like is the lateral bumps and dirt. It's a pity that Volkswagen was stingy with the 4WD CrossPolo.
