Dacia Lodge: pragmatist

To appreciate this car, it is good to understand its essence, and not be limited only to obvious facts such as price.

Against code 000884 in the price list with additional equipment for the Volvo V40, it is advisable to use in the following option: with illumination inside the gear lever. Welcome to the 126th year of the invention of the automobile, when most of us have focused so much on things like decorative lighting for the gear lever that we seem to have forgotten about the true, basic purpose of the automobile. Therefore, believe me, it is worth taking a closer look at Dacia Loggi.

The essence of things

Dacia brings us back to the pure and unadulterated essence of all-wheel drive mobility, no pretensions and no frills, a feeling enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of classic car owners around the world. Incredible as it may seem, Lodgy starts at 19 BGN. VAT INCLUDED. For an additional fee of BGN 400, Lodgy Ambiance is available with good equipment and an economical 7000 hp diesel engine. Fittings include power windows at the front, roof rails, an asymmetrically split rear seat, four airbags and an onboard computer. The Lodgy is also the first Dacia model to offer a turn signal function for lane changes, as well as automatic wiper activation after the washer fluid is applied to the windshield. It certainly doesn't sound like a five-star luxury, but the truth is that you don't need much else to move comfortably from point A to point.

This car offers a lot. Literally. Lodgy, covering an area of 7,9 square meters, can accommodate up to seven people.

Together with additional "additions", the test machine costs exactly 14 euros - in other tested models, only the additional equipment costs the same, and often much more expensive. In this light, Loggia starts to look very different. Everyone understands that the price of this car cannot go by itself and, accordingly, the materials in the interior are simple, and some of the details have a rough look. However, apart from this (quite expected) feature, Lodgy demonstrates a solid build and the complete absence of unpleasant noise from the case. It is a reliable and practical machine whose true value lies in its simple packaging.

Advantages and disadvantages

Take, for example, the internal volume. With a nominal capacity of 827 liters, the trunk is 132 liters larger than that of the VW Touran, and as we well know, the positive Wolfsburg model cannot be blamed for a lack of boot space. After folding the seat in the second row, the volume reaches a fantastic 2617 liters - by comparison, the Touran costs 1989 liters. In such conditions, it is easy to forget about minor cosmetic defects, such as an uneven floor of the cargo compartment.

The driver of the Loggia and his partner have enough space in all directions, the seats are comfortable, however, with relatively weak lateral support. The cabin, which has a lot of storage space, is as easy to operate as possible, in part due to the small number of functions in the car. The fact that the horn is triggered by a button located on the turn signal lever can be seen as a nod to the past. Renault. One exception to the otherwise excellent ergonomics is the rotary headlight-range adjuster, which is tucked away to the left of the driver's ankle - a rather "original" decision, the reasons for which remain unknown.

The seat in the second row has been moved far forward to increase the luggage space, but nevertheless there is enough space even for three people, seating comfort is also good. It is commendable that all three rear seats are equipped with an Isofix system for attaching a child seat. Climbing up the Lodgy is also a pleasure, but the large rear doors sometimes make parking in tight spaces awkward. Parking is not one of Lodgy's strengths. The long wheelbase results in a relatively large turning radius, the wide C-pillars impair visibility to the rear, and the short and sloping front cover makes it difficult to judge the location of the front end.

When to work

Under the cover just mentioned hides our well-known 1,5-liter diesel from Renault, which has a well-deserved reputation as one of the most successful power plants in the concern. Dacia has saved difficult (or expensive) fuel economy measures, but the official fuel consumption by the European standard is only 4,2 L / 100 km. And although we note again that NEFZ consumption values rarely have anything to do with reality, in the standardized cycle for economical driving the auto motor and sport Lodgy itself reported consumption ... exactly 4,2 liters per hundred kilometers. ... The average fuel consumption in the test of 5,9 l / 100 km is also surprisingly low, especially considering the fact that the Common Rail engine can handle the Lodgy's 1283 kg with amazing agility. The five-speed manual gearbox is borrowed from Modus and Megane and has fairly large gear ratios, so after upshifting, there is a short phase of thinking on the engine side. Once overcome, lethargy is replaced by a powerful wave of thrust. The car's temperament does not change significantly even under full load, which in the case of the Lodgy can reach an impressive 587 kilograms.

Like the drivetrain, Dacia borrowed chassis components from the parent company. The suspension is similar to that of the Logan MCV, which in turn uses Clio II technology. The traditional combination of a MacPherson strut with front anti-roll bar and rear torsion bar has long proven its worth when transporting large loads. When empty, the Lodgy can handle intersections and other similar bumps a little bit steep, but with a few pounds more, the car starts to move perfectly without compromising road safety. When needed, the ESP system responds in a timely manner and with a non-stick coating.

A bit of sensation

Loggia has no ambition to be an athlete on the road, so poor feedback from the steering wheel can hardly be called a serious minus. Probably the narrow and tall 15-inch tires are one of the reasons why the Lodgy is not quite satisfactory in the brake tests - after all, even in the segment below 20 leva there are cars that stop from 000 km / h by about 100 meters and even lower. . The brakes are the reason why Logi didn't get a full four stars in the final rating.

Which, in fact, in no way changes the fact that Dacia has created a wonderful car. To make such a spacious, practical, durable, economical and reasonable in every respect van with a starting price below BGN 20 is a small sensation. Lodgy has nothing to do with and does not want to have anything to do with fashionable lifestyle concepts, simply because it offers something much more substantial than that.

Evaluation

Dacia Lodgy dCi 90 Ambience

His style is pragmatism: Lodgy is the most successful embodiment of the Dacia philosophy to date. The car is extremely spacious, practical, solid and economical. Only a few safety flaws were worth the fourth star in the final rating.
