Dacia Sandero 1.4 MPI winner

In the photos you see not an unknown brand, not some new model of a Korean or Japanese manufacturer, but a completely real Romanian Dacia Sandero. As for Dacia, since it is Renuo, it is still oriental. ...

If Logan, whose DNA is nearly identical to Sander's (he has a shortened crotch and more than three-quarters of Logan's parts, most of which are, of course, invisible), didn't say it was a sympathetic specimen, Sander's story is different. They turn to him! The shape is fairly consistent, the lines are fluid, modern, and nothing suggests a close relationship with Logan and MCV.

At least until you open the door and sit behind the already visible dashboard with many Logan-Renault elements. The main advantage of each Dacia is the price, which also applies to the Sander, with the difference that the body shape of the limousine has more potential for Slovenian new car buyers than the Logan sedan. In Turkey, for example, the opposite is true, but here we are not interested in this part.

We are interested in how many cars the buyer will receive at the stated price of 6.666 EUR. Here Sandero is second to none. For six thousand, of course, there are (good) used cars, but they fail to impress the buyer looking for virginity (zero mileage and no other driver in front of him) and full warranty.

As expected, for 6.666 euros you get the Sander, which is better off not on the EU price list: no passenger airbag, no side airbags, no radio, no air conditioning, no power windows. If you use the “no ABS” option, you will lower the base price by as much as 210 €, but we do not recommend such steps.

You won't find many basic Dacias Sandero's, if any, as there aren't enough of them at the beginning of the sentence. Even the vans are better equipped. Therefore, it makes sense to choose average or better equipment (Ambiance and Laureate), which allows the choice of accessories.

With the test Sander, the equipment choices were very sensible: Laureate plus trim in metallic, Laureate Plus package (air conditioning and CD MP3 radio, electric rear windows), side airbags and an SUV kit are the only ones. We would not have chosen this Sander and thus would have saved more than 480 euros, which means that the price of our chosen Sander will still be very close to ten thousand. With all possible practical equipment: power windows, electric mirrors, air conditioning, radio and four airbags (unfortunately, the side curtains cannot be bought, nor the stabilization system, which we consider the Dacia to be a big disadvantage).

Assembled in this way, Sandero has no serious competitors among limousines. With a few millimeters by four meters of Sander's length, this Dacia ranks first among small cars among the Corsa, Grande Punta, Clia, Dvestosemica, although according to some characteristics (spaciousness, especially the size of the trunk), it takes care of the next lesson.

There is enough space in Sander for a family of four of average height. First of all, there is enough space in width, but first of all it will jump out onto the knees of the rear passengers (the first minus of Logan's shortened crotch). The 320-litre boot tops the small class, only disappointing in its increase, which can turn quite a few hairs gray if you're having a bad day. From the back of the rear seat, you must first remove the head restraints, and before that, pull the part of the seat from below and tilt forward. The view of such an open bench isn't the prettiest due to the visible foam and cables, but you just think that simplicity is a tax at a better price.

Problem 1: only the backrest is divided by a third, not the seat of the back bench. Problem 2: You will need to open the tailgate while lowering the backrest, as the backrest will wedge when lowering the backrest. Objective 3: When the bench is knocked down, a step is created. Problem 4: When folding the bench seat, make sure the seat belt slots remain outside. Where are four hands when you need them? But a little patience will help.

Due to its relatively high body, the loading height of the boot is one of the highest. So it sits in front. Driving visibility is excellent, with a steering wheel that is too flat and adjustable only in height, many people will feel “too high” and therefore spend more time looking for a comfortable position. The front seats are comfortable (the driver's height is adjusted in addition to the lumbar part).

Ergonomics are not Sander's best side. The headlight height adjustment switch (headlights on!) Hidden above your feet, does not light up and is hard to reach. The mirror control button, which was mounted just below the parking brake lever, is also poorly placed. The HVAC switches are also not okay, as they are inconveniently placed in front of the gear lever, but if you want to order, add a few thousand (which is a significant amount for this class of car) and buy something completely neat.

Sandero doesn't want to be a role model, but he manages the workmanship (not materials) and the seats (the front seats are still too short and don't hold the body well enough). The trip computer is one-sided, but informative with everything expected, only it does not have data on the outside air temperature. We saved on power windows (without the “one-touch” function), placed the front power window buttons on the dashboard above the air conditioning switches, and the rear window switches between the seats. It is easy and long visible, as are the locks for opening the driver's door and trunk. There are mirrors only on the passenger visor, reading lights only in the front, and, surprisingly, the passenger compartment is illuminated.

There is plenty of storage space for the first force: around the gear lever, where there is room for two cans (or baskets and cans), there are drawers in the front door and pockets on the back of the front seats. The radio with CD and MP3 player is not original, you can buy it in the store (was it available ten years ago?), With too few buttons. Due to the long antenna, it picks up frequencies surprisingly well. With four speakers, Sandero never becomes a disco.

We were more surprised by the handling of the Dacia, it is quite exemplary, only the tilt of the body is more noticeable. The driver quietly avoids this (first of all, the question of whether the Sandera customer thinks about driving pleasure) with a less dynamic ride and, together with other passengers, indulges in the positive side of the soft chassis - enjoying comfort. Steering wheel corrections (steering feedback decreases with speed) are surprisingly small even at highway speeds, but overall Sander's behavior on the road is very exemplary and noticeably better than with Thalia, Logan (

You currently get the Sandera with a 1 or 4 liter engine. The weaker one, on which the test Sander drove, has 1, and the stronger one has 6 “horses”. The 75 MPI is very poor when evaluating its flexibility in fourth and fifth gears (we rarely see such poor results), as well as in the race from 90 to 1.4 km / h, which is even more noticeable when overtaking and driving on an open road, when the Sandera is needed at all run a little. Many times without much success as the motor is basically lacking in torque. It might be worth throwing in that pile of cash and opting for a 0-litre engine to outrun anything but tractors and move uphill on highway slopes without having to take cover among trucks with a slightly busier car.

At a speed of 130 km / h on the motorway, the engine noise and the wind noise around the body, which "announces" at a speed of 90-100 km / h, are also more noticeable. Consumption in the test strongly depended on the driving style. In quiet operation, the 1.4 MPI also contented itself with a consumption of only 6 liters per 4 kilometers, and on the open road and highways it required almost nine liters. The 100-liter Sandero is especially suited for city walks, where it blends well with the rest of the transport. We'd praise the gearbox with precise movement and the short ratios around town.

I remember high school and the saying that a car is the most wasted investment. With such a grinder, losses can be kept to a minimum. The only question is whether your lifestyle allows it. Don't look at your neighbors!

Face to face

Alyosha Mrak: Don't look at brand or lineage. It doesn't make sense. Sandero convinces already in the cabin, as it is undoubtedly the most beautiful Dacia at the moment, it complements it with an undemanding (test) ride, and, above all, brings a smile for the price. As soon as we buy a new car for less than ten thousand euros, there is no room for picky remarks about some mistakes. It sits high, the engine can only breathe smoothly (so I definitely recommend 1 liter if it needs petrol), materials could be better, ABS standard. But heck, if you want a relatively cheap new car that has to be durable in addition to good quality and above all half as much as its competitors (in terms of price) then you don't have much of a choice. Sandero would be the right decision.

Dusan Lukic: Here in Renault (sorry Dacia) they will jump into the air, but Sanadero (one A more or less doesn't matter here, does it?) is a great car for more or less third world countries. It can peacefully serve as a presidential car (especially for the Croatian government), and, in addition, it will prove again and again in a less developed automobile country that its owner is a person who is respected and appreciated in his environment. For example, the towbar for a broken car is covered at the front (since the Sanadero never gives up) and open at the back, always ready to tow, just as the owner of the Sanadero is always ready to help a friend or stranger who is 20 years old, old, half rusted and on the the moment a broken box was never left on the rough rubble road behind God. Hop and Sanadero come to the rescue - and since it has plastic "off-road" trim and accessories, it's also very pleasing to the eye. . I bet it will sell well with our southern neighbors. Who wouldn't want to puff their president's ass every day? Did you lure him into the graben?

Vinko Kernc: This car reminds me of the old days, Stoenke, although after sober reflection it is not fair. Sandero meets all modern environmental requirements and a large number of the highest safety standards. That it was then designed and manufactured to be cheap must be known somewhere. If everything went along the normal line of development, today there should be such Lada and Zastava, but they are not. Fortunately, Renault and Dacia are here, and with them Sandero. Lots of cars for this money!

Overall rating (261/420)

  • The only category where Sandero shines is price. If this is very important when choosing a new car, you will be able to live well with the average rest.

  • Exterior (12/15)

Without a doubt, the most beautiful Dacia, probably of all time. There are no comments on the quality of execution.

  • Interior (91/140)

More useful than a small car, but with the same spacious passenger compartment. Lagging behind the wheel, behind the wheel and equipment.

  • Engine, transmission (27

    / 40)

The engine is only suitable if you are driving slowly and mostly in the city. Kudos to the gearbox.

  • Driving performance (60

    / 95)

The chassis is built for softness lovers, which means worry-free driving from A to B.

  • Performance (14/35)

The flexibility measurement stretched out to almost two days, and the Sandero didn't glow even when accelerating.

  • Security (32/45)

Whatever the money: no ESP, no protective curtains.

  • Economy

You won't buy it because of a little loss in value or low fuel consumption and warranty, but because of the price.
