Darts - learn the rules of the game

Darts, or darts, is a game that everyone knows or at least knows. Learn more about its rules and see which darts are best, how far to throw them, and how to set up the playing field according to accepted guidelines.

Basic rules for playing darts

If not everyone has had personal contact with the game of darts, better known in Poland as a game of darts or darts, then they have probably seen a fragment of the game at least once - “live” or in some movie or TV series. It is one of the most popular party games in the world, suitable for people of all ages, and can be played both in a small room and outdoors.

Darts is especially famous in the United States and Britain, which is why its theme appears so frequently in foreign films and TV series, usually as a piece of pub equipment. The object of the game is to reset the points received for the start, including by hitting the dart in the correctly scored places on the target. Over the years of improving its rules and the appearance of the dartboard itself or the design of the dart, the rules of the game of darts have undergone many changes and, finally, have remained in the form that is known to this day.

Accessories for playing darts

You don't need a lot of equipment to play darts, but there are accessories without which it would be impossible to play a single move. The absolute basis is, of course, a round dartboard divided into 20 triangular fields, which are further divided into 4 smaller ones. Triangles converge, in the center of which there is a small circle - the center of the dial. Each field has a certain number of points.

The second and final essential element of the game of darts are darts, also called darts or arrows. They are pointed, oblong and narrow, and at the other end they have “wings” resembling oars. They can be made of steel or plastic; the last option is recommended for people who want to buy a children's darts set.

How to install darts?

For children, the suspension height of the disc should be appropriate for their height. Therefore, there are no strict guidelines here, because babies grow so fast that the optimal place will be completely different for a 6-year-old and a 12-year-old. However, it is assumed that the center of the board should be above the line of sight.

When assembling an adult game board, it is best to adhere to the height specified in the rules of the game of darts. This is exactly 173 cm above the ground; It does not matter if the players are 200 cm or 160 cm tall. The turn player must be exactly 237 cm from the target at the time of the throw. The latter should have a diameter of 45 cm, however smaller and larger models are also available on the market. Regardless of which one you choose, try to stick to the previously indicated distances.

Assembling the disk itself is not very difficult, since it is hung on the mounting package included in the kit, consisting of screws and damper plates. So, you need to mark the height of the shield on the wall (173 cm), screw a metal plate in this place, attach a screw to it and hang the shield.

How to play darts?

The standard game (a variant called Dart 501) is played by two players. Each of them gets 501 starting points and 3 darts. Participants make 3 throws, then give way to another player - and so on. The goal of the game is to lose all points, so the one with no points wins. However, this is rather perverse, because in order to lose them, they must first be collected - in each turn, the number of points is deducted from the total points pool, as the participant scores by throwing on the fields on the backboard.

For example: the participant starts the game, so he has 501 points. Performs 3 throws: one in the field worth 25 points, the second: for 4 points, the third: for 16 points. In total, he receives 45 of them, which he subtracts from the original 501 - he has 456 points left to lose.

Dart - scoring by target areas

The basis for scoring the fields of the target is the numbering from 1 to 20. It is written around the target so that each number corresponds to one of the triangles that make up the radius of the board. And so at 12 o'clock there are usually 20 points, and at 6 - 3 points. The narrowest outer margins (embedded next to the numbering) have a double meaning. Thus, hitting the narrow field at 12 o'clock is worth 40 points.

The largest boxes are counted according to the assigned numbering, and the narrower boxes next to them, located closer to the center, are counted three times. There are also two medium small circles; hitting the outer one gives 25 points, and hitting the central one (the so-called bull's eye) - 50 points.

Due to the fact that modern watch faces have built-in counters, participants do not need to keep track and record scores. Therefore, before buying a set for darts, you should compare several boards with each other in order to choose the most functional one!
