The main purpose of the sensor in question is to control the oil pressure in the engine lubrication system. The information contained in it is transmitted to a light bulb located on the instrument panel and is very important for the driver. According to the oil pressure indicator in the system, the driver determines the correct operation of the engine.

The oil pressure sensor (DDM) in a car of the Lada VAZ 2107 family is located directly in the lower left part of the engine. In the internal structure of the product there is an active element that reacts to pressure drops. With pressure drops, a corresponding change in the magnitude of the current occurs, which is recorded by the measuring device. This device is called an arrow located in the passenger compartment on the instrument panel.

Initially, it should be noted that there are two types of DDM: electronic and mechanical. The difference between these products is that the first option is emergency, that is, when the pressure drops, the signal light comes on. The second option is more reliable, since it can be used not only to determine the presence of pressure, but also to control its magnitude.

In cars with a VAZ 2107 carburetor, as well as modern injection models of the "seven", only electronic pressure sensors are used.

This means that the information is transmitted to the pointer in the form of an indicator (bulb). The role of the oil pressure indicator is to signal the driver about a malfunction. At the same time, a special indicator in the form of a bulb lights up on the instrument panel, which is why it is necessary to stop and turn off the engine.

Problems with DDM

If the indicator on the instrument panel lights up, then turn off the engine, and then use the dipstick to check the oil level. If the level is normal, then the cause of the light alarm is a sensor malfunction. This happens if the oil pressure sensor is clogged.

Drivers often have questions about why the indicator is on and what is the cause of the malfunction if the sensor works and the oil level is normal. If checking the oil pressure and sensor for serviceability did not reveal any problems, then the following factors may be the reasons for the indicator to light up:

  • sensor wiring fault;
  • problems with the operation of the oil pump;
  • large play in the crankshaft bearings.

As practice shows, most often the sensor fails or an oil leak occurs. If a leak occurs, do not continue driving. It is necessary to call a tow truck, then to the house or to the service station to identify the cause of the leak. If the sensor is defective, it must be replaced with a new one. The cost of the product does not exceed 100 rubles.

Diagnostics of faults and methods of elimination

If the oil level is below normal, it should be topped up to the “MAX” mark on the dipstick. To check the status of the sensor itself, you will need to use the following methods:

  • use MANOMETER;
  • connect the sensor to the compressor.

If you have a pressure gauge, checking the serviceability of the product is not difficult. To do this, it is necessary to warm up the engine to operating temperature, then turn it off and screw in a pressure gauge instead of an electronic product. Thus, it is possible to check not only the serviceability of the DDM, but also the pressure in the system.

The second option involves removing the DDM from the car. After that, you will need to use a pump with a pressure gauge and a tester. The procedure is very simple, for this you need to connect the product to the pump hose and set the tester to the continuity mode. Connect one probe to the output of the MDM, and the second to its "mass". When the air is evacuated, the circuit will break, causing the tester to not give continuity. If the tester beeps with and without pressure, the sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced.

DDM is not repairable, so after failure, you just need to replace it with a new one. It is also important to take into account the fact that in order to fully control the pressure in the system, it is recommended to install a mechanical sensor together with an electronic sensor. It will not be difficult to do this. First you need to buy a special T-shirt, as shown in the photo below.

Through such a tee, you can install both electronic and mechanical DDM. You will also need to purchase a pressure gauge (pressure gauge) in the passenger compartment. The best option is to purchase a pressure gauge for VAZ 2106 or NIVA 2131 cars.

Connecting this sensor is carried out according to the following instructions, as shown in the photo below. It is important to understand that it is not necessary to connect the cable to the emergency oil pressure sensor, since there is a standard pressure gauge on the instrument panel.
