LADA Priora is equipped with a fully modern 16-valve engine that complies with Euro 3 and Euro 4 environmental safety standards. This means that it is necessary to prevent unburned fuel from entering the exhaust system.

The system works quite simply:

• Fuel ejection occurs when a misfire occurs in the ignition system. At the moment the spark disappears, the corresponding cylinder detonates. This is determined by the engine knock sensor, the information is sent to the ECU. Electronics blocks the supply of fuel to the problem cylinder.
• The problem is that the knock sensor is triggered not only by misfires, but also by car jerks when driving on rough roads. The ECU detects this and unnecessarily cuts off the fuel supply.

This results in power loss and engine instability. But where is the environment? How does the Priora rough road sensor affect Euro 3(4) standards?

The device helps extend the life of exhaust aftertreatment systems. With unstable operation of the internal combustion engine and the ingress of unburned fuel into the exhaust system, lambda probes and catalysts wear out quickly. The electronic engine control unit compares the readings of various sensors, determining the true cause of the knock. In the event that the knock sensor and the rough road work synchronously, there is no fuel cutoff and the engine runs normally.

Where is the rough road sensor on Priore

To obtain reliable information about the road surface, the sensor is located in the most sensitive area: the front suspension engagement point. Specifically, in Priore, this is the shock absorber support cup.

For reference: on front-wheel drive cars of the VAZ company (including LADA Priora), the front suspension is made according to the MacPherson scheme.

All impacts from the road surface are transferred to the turntable of the frame. It is in this area that the rough road sensor is located.
