Replacing the coolant temperature sensor Audi A6 C5

The coolant sensor helps us monitor the temperature of the engine. If suddenly you do not replace this sensor in time, you can be sure of problems. How to understand that there is a problem with the sensor and it is already faulty?

All information about the temperature through the sensor is displayed on the screen (dashboard) of the car. If suddenly something went wrong with the temperature, we will immediately see it and be able to prevent more serious problems.

If suddenly you did not replace the sensor in time, you will not be able to see what is happening with the fuel.

The engine may overheat without you noticing.

Understanding that the sensor is broken is not so difficult:

  • The arrow will be at zero.
  • Perhaps the arrow is misinforming you.
  • The temperature only shows one information.
  • The electric fan is not working.

From this manual, we will learn how to replace the coolant temperature sensor on an Audi A6 car. This car has a 2.8 engine.

The sensor is located under the intake manifold. In this procedure, it will not be necessary to drain the liquid, proceed as you wish here. The thing is that when we change the coolant sensor, the liquid itself will not pour out much.

We'll take care of the engine bay. First of all, remove the casing, which is located on the engine. After that, we will have access to the air filter and then we can easily remove the pipe.

So that we can remove the temperature sensor, we must release it from the mounting bracket. The fluid sensor is removed with a rocking motion.

The procedure must be performed on a cold engine. If suddenly your engine is hot, then you need to relieve pressure in the system, for this, unscrew the cylinder cover.

Removal and installation

Petrol engines 2,4 l; 2,8 l; 3,2 l

  1. Briefly open the cap on the coolant expansion tank to release any residual pressure in the cooling system.
  2. Remove the engine front cover.
  3. Unplug electrical connector -2- at coolant temperature sender -G62-.

    Note:

Spread out a rag to soak up leaking coolant.
  4. Remove clamp -1- and remove coolant temperature sender -G62-.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order, paying attention to the following:

  • Replace the O-ring.
  • Insert new coolant temperature sender -G62- into connection immediately to avoid loss of coolant.

4,2L petrol engines

  1. Briefly open the cap on the coolant expansion tank to release any residual pressure in the cooling system.
  2. Remove the rear engine cover.
  3. Disconnect the fuel line from the air duct and the cable to the absorber from the air cleaner housing.
  4. Remove the air duct from the air filter housing by disconnecting the clamps -4 and 5-.
  5. Take the air duct with the connected cables -2 and 3- aside.
  6. Unplug electrical connector -arrow- at coolant temperature sender -G62-.

    Note:

Spread out a rag to soak up leaking coolant.
  7. Remove seal and remove coolant temperature sender -G62-.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order, taking into account the following:

  • Replace the O-ring.

Owner's story Audi A 6 C 5 - self-repair. If I changed, then in the photo, where I took off the duct pipe to the DZ, where traces of antifreeze are visible, you can see it there. Coolant temperature sender G62, combined with temperature sender G 2 for instrument panel - 4 blue contacts. Audi A4 B5. G40 camshaft position sensor 6. By the way, when the car had already cooled down a bit, the temperature on the panel was still around, and the OBD scanner, by the way, showed something completely different: Optional elements, already that I broke the hose: Old and new sensors are the second problem, they gave me another sensor, I have an oval connector, but they gave me a square one.

After connecting the computer, I counted an error on the G62 sensor in the engine and G2 in the tidy: After a couple of traffic lights, it began to show calm again. Also, if you turn on D, I have an automatic, they fall off.

I always wait for them to go back to normal. The car started without a hitch, but all the action took place on warm summer nights. In winter, the car may not start or start from the hundredth time. As a solution, remove the temperature sensor chip, from where the data goes to the "brain" of the engine, and try to start the car.

If this is not the case for A4 please correct me. Physically, these sensors are combined in one housing. They are located on the rear wall of the engine between the engine and the bulkhead of the engine compartment. It is inserted into a plastic tee, which is screwed into the block. The sensor, respectively, 4 contacts - 2 contacts - G2 and 2 others - G G2 - is responsible for indicating the arrow on the instrument panel. G62 - transmits information to the engine control unit. Useful links for diagnosing temperature sensors and a thermostat: An original sensor with an old number was purchased, the original manufacturer is Luxembourg.

Tool Actually about replacement. The replacement was made on a hot car, I wanted to change it quickly. Although of course it's better when it's cool, less likely to burn your hands.

Relieve pressure in the cooling system: unscrew the cap of the coolant reservoir. Then he twisted it again. I unscrewed 3 clamps from the T of the VKG system: but I read that it can break, dry out from old age. Having removed this T-shirt, we see the sensor itself, or rather the chip in it: About the installation later. The wiring harness has been removed to facilitate access: the sensor is held by a plastic latch, pulled out into the passenger compartment. Just a couple of grams of Gram antifreeze spilled. On a cold engine, the losses will be even less. Important: No, we look at the sensor seat, be sure to remove it.

We remove the chip from the sensor. Someone may have point 7 before, as I wrote above. To remove the chips, I had to spray WD40, since there was a lot of fine sand, it did not come off. Install the new sensor in its place. And we argue with the sensor bracket. We dress the contact chip in the sensor. We remove the remnants of the old hose and put 1 end here: The second end here, between the intake manifold pipes of cylinders 1 and 2: Put back the T VKG. Install the wiring harness in place.

We tighten 3 clamps VKG T. That's all. We start the engine and see that it starts. I read that then it is impossible to connect the ECU to reset errors, since after a few starts of the machine everything will return to normal.
