Crankshaft sensor

Camshaft position sensor

The camshaft sensor is located in the cylinder head from its end, from the side of the gearbox, and is fastened with two bolts.

Coolant temperature sensor

DTOZH is a part responsible for turning on the cooling fan, as well as readings on the dashboard about the temperature of the coolant and the formation of the fuel mixture. The sensor itself is made on the basis of a thermistor, which transmits resistance readings to the engine control unit about the temperature of the coolant. Based on these readings, the ECU regulates the fuel supply, thus increasing the speed when the car's cold engine warms up.

Location

The coolant temperature sensor on the Kia Sportage is located in the tube under the engine intake manifold.

Malfunction symptoms:

• There is no heating of the internal combustion engine speed;

Absolute pressure sensor

DMRV, the absolute pressure sensor, in the event of a malfunction, stops the input signal to the ECU, which is necessary to calculate the amount of air supplied to the engine. The sensor relies on measuring the vacuum in the intake manifold, based on these readings, it understands how much air is currently in the receiver. These readings are sent to the ECU and the fuel mixture is corrected.

Location

The absolute pressure sensor is located in the car's air reservoir.

Throttle position sensor

TPS controls throttle position. It transmits data to the ECU and regulates the amount of air-fuel mixture supplied to the engine. The task of the sensor is to provide control of the throttle position. In the event of a breakdown, the stabilization of the engine is violated.

Location

Because the sensor operates on the same axis as the throttle, it is located on the vehicle's throttle assembly.

Malfunction symptoms:

• Loss of power
• Unstable idle;
• Strong revolutions.

Vehicle speed sensor

Modern cars are more electronic than before. In the old days, a special cable was needed for the speedometer to work, and now a small sensor is responsible for the operation of the speedometer, which contains the functions of not only measuring speed, but also adjusting the fuel mixture, automatic transmission operation, etc., but this part is called the speed sensor.

Location

The sensor reads the gear readings from the gearbox, so you can find it at the car's checkpoint.

Malfunction symptoms:

• The speedometer stops working, its sensors float or give inaccurate readings;
• When switching, jerks occur, indicators are issued at the wrong time;
• On some models, it is possible to completely disable the ABS. It is also possible to disable the engine thrust;
• The ECU is in some cases able to limit the maximum speed or vehicle speed;
• The Check Engine light on the dashboard comes on.

Knock sensor

Modern cars are full of electronic components, but this is even better, because now with the help of a knock sensor you can detect any problem in the engine and solve it simply by adjusting the ignition timing. This problem is solved by the knock sensor, but sometimes this sensor can fail.

In the event of a malfunction, the ECU ceases to determine the completion of the combustion process of the fuel mixture in the cylinders. The problem is that the output signal is too strong or too weak. Among the reasons are the failure of the sensor itself, the appearance of a short circuit, a malfunction of the engine control unit, a protective braid or a break in the signal wire.

Location

Since most of the knocking occurs in the engine block, the knock sensor is located there, on the right side of the engine block.

Malfunction symptoms:

• Loss of power;
• Poor start of the internal combustion engine;
• Finger tapping.

Oil pressure sensor

The main task of the oil pressure sensor is to monitor the oil pressure readings in the engine. If a red oiler icon appears on the dashboard, this indicates an oil pressure failure. In this case, you should turn off the engine as soon as possible so as not to damage it, then check the oil level and call a tow truck, if the oil level is normal, it is not recommended to continue driving with the oil pressure light on.

Location

The oil pressure sensor is located on the side of the intake manifold and is screwed into the oil pump.

Malfunction symptoms:

• The oil pressure light is on at normal pressure.

Oxygen sensor

The lambda probe is a device that got its name from the Greek letter lambda, which denotes the level of exhaust gases. This sensor is used in connection with the introduction of toxicity standards for vehicle exhaust emissions into the environment.

The lambda probe shows the degree of concentration of the oxygen level in electronic control systems. The presence of a malfunction affects the operation of the engine by reducing the level of fuel entering the combustion chamber.

Location

The lambda probe is always located in the exhaust tract (exhaust manifold) of the car and is fixed there through a threaded connection.

Malfunction symptoms:

• Loss of power;
• Unstable operation of the internal combustion engine.

Reverse sensor

The sensor is needed to turn on the light when reversing. When the driver engages reverse, the sensor contacts are closed, turning on the power supply for the rear lights, allowing safe parking at night.

Location

The reverse sensor is located in the gearbox.

Malfunction symptoms:

• Reversing lights do not work.

ABS sensor

The sensor is part of the blocking system and is responsible for determining the moment of its blocking by wheel speed. It is determined at the moment of rotation of the wheel due to the speed at which the signal enters the ECU.

Location

The car has 4 ABS sensors and each of them is located in the wheel hub.

Malfunction symptoms:

• The wheels often lock up under heavy braking;
• The on-board control display shows an error;
• There is no vibration when pressing the brake pedal.
