De Tomaso PANTERA L - American character
Panther was built with Ford's powerful V8 engine to survive the US market. This approach turned out to be correct and, as a result, this model was produced for a very long time.
Ford V8 engine
Since the Pantera was expected to be produced in large numbers (Ford was hoping to produce 5000 vehicles a year), it was designed for mass production, that is, with a self-supporting body structure. The Pantera received a 8cc Ford "Cleveland" V5763 engine. Overhead valve, which was used in earlier Mustangs as it was to be sold through Ford dealers in the US absorbent market.
Front spoiler
The front spoiler, designed to complement the extravagant rear wing, plays a large role in reducing the amount of air entering the vehicle underbody.
Carbon fiber rear spoiler
The rear spoiler was optional: it had to pin the car to the ground at high speeds. Since 1980, the spoiler has been made of carbon fiber.
Different wheel sizes
To accommodate the huge tires, the rear wheels are 330mm wide and the front wheels are just 254mm wide.
Additional high beam
The road lights were not the Panther's greatest strength, and the additional headlights fitted to the front fairing proved to be a valuable addition.
ENGINE
A type: Ford V8.
Building: cast iron block and cylinder head. Timing: two valves per cylinder, driven by a camshaft mounted in one block, through pushers and rocker arms.
Diameter and stroke of the teak: 102 x 88,9 mm. Engine displacement: 5763 cc
Compression Ratio: 10,5: 1.
Supply system: single 4-throat holly carburetor.
Maximum power: 350 h.p. at 6000 rpm Maximum torque: 630 Nm at 3800 rpm.
TRANSMISSION
5-speed ZF manual transmission located next to the rear axle.
BODY / CHASSIS
Self-supporting steel structure with two-door coupé body. Like the Lamborghini Countach, the Pantera De Tomaso has an optional rear spoiler. It was both decorative and functional.
