Tesla Battery Day "could be in mid-May." May be …

Elon Musk admitted on Twitter that an event during which the manufacturer will reveal the latest information about powertrains and batteries - Tesla Battery & Powertrain Investor Day - "may take place in mid-May." It was previously rumored that it would take place on April 20, 2020.

Battery Day - What to Expect

According to Musk's statement, Battery Day was supposed to introduce us to the chemistry of cells, the subject of architecture, and the manufacturing of the modules and batteries used by Tesla. As part of the event, the manufacturer also planned to present its vision of development to investors until the moment when Tesla will produce 1 GWh of cells per year.

> Toyota wants to get 2 times more lithium-ion cells than Panasonic + Tesla produces. Only in 2025

According to the initial, unofficial plans, the event was to take place first in February-March 2020, and the last date was designated. April 20, 2020... However, the plague in the US and the growing number of restrictions have made Tesla the boss. I don’t want to set hard deadlines now.... Perhaps it will be mid-May (a source).

What do we really learn during Battery Day? There is a lot of speculation, but remember that a year ago no one predicted an FSD computer with a completely new processor developed by Tesla (NNA, Hardware Platform 3.0). Nevertheless, we list the most likely ones:

  • cells that can withstand millions of kilometers,
  • Power unit "Plad", g.
  • very cheap cells at $ 100 per kWh (Roadrunner project),
  • higher battery capacity in the manufacturer's vehicles, for example 109 kWh in the Tesla Model S / X,
  • using LiFePO cells4 in China and beyond,
  • Drivetrain optimization for higher ranges.
