On August 14, 2013, the Minister of Transport, Construction and Marine Economy appointed the Motor Transport Institute as the authorized body:
1) in the field of approval for: a) testing a vehicle or vehicle type for EU type approval for vehicle categories: M, N, O, L, C, R and T, b) testing for type approval a piece of equipment or parts for vehicles of categories: M, N, O, L, C, R and T, c) carrying out acceptance tests of the method of assembling an installation that adapts this type of vehicle to gas supply for vehicles of categories: M and H,
d) carrying out: - verification of the conformity of the production of a vehicle, equipment or parts to cars of categories: M, N, O, L, C, R and T, - verification of the conformity of the installation of the installation fixture to this type of vehicle gas supply for categories: M and H;
2) regarding the approval of the vehicle for testing to confirm the implementation of the relevant 
conditions or technical requirements of a given vehicle for the acceptance of a vehicle unit for vehicle categories: M, N, O, L, C, R and T;
3) within the framework of the individual EU vehicle approval, carry out tests confirming that the relevant conditions or technical requirements of the vehicle are met for the approval of the individual EU vehicle.
Approval is the process by which a new type of vehicle is put into service. Based on the positive test results of the approved technical unit, the approval authority issues a vehicle type approval certificate, which gives the right to register it. This certificate confirms that the technical requirements specified in the relevant legal acts are met.
The approval is granted for a vehicle type for which there is a family of vehicles with certain variants and versions that can differ only in certain characteristics listed in Directive 2007/46/EC.
