2022 Haval H9 Details: Chinese SUV Rival Toyota Prado Revises Its Ratings Inside And Out

This could be the new look of the Haval H9, which has been on sale in Australia since 2015.

The facelifted Haval H9 large SUV has hit China's domestic market, showing off a new look and upgraded interior, but will there be a new model to rival the Toyota Prado?

Speaking to Cars Guide, head of marketing for GMW Haval Australia ruled out the new H9 for local consumption, saying "the facelift introduced in Chengdu is not in our plans" but the nameplate "will remain in its current form here in Australia."

Regardless, the 2022 H9 has a new look with a new vertical-bar chrome grille, updated headlights, and a new bumper with redesigned fog lights.

In profile, the new H9 looks much the same as before, retaining the fake front fender vents, 18-inch wheel design, lower door trim, roof racks, and ribbed beltline.

From the rear, the new H9 looks the same as the current version, although the Chinese market version has a boot-mounted spare tire, while the Australian-spec car moves it from below.

The cockpit has also been slightly redesigned to accommodate a larger central multimedia touchscreen, although the exact size is currently unknown.

As such, the center vents have been moved under the screen, while the climate controls and center tunnel remain largely unchanged.

In China, the H9 uses a 2.0-liter turbo-petrol engine with 165kW/324Nm, while the Australian versions are tuned to 180kW/350Nm.

The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with a torque converter that sends drive to all four wheels, while off-road equipment, including a transfer case, a rear differential lock and a traction control system, is present in the current car.

GWM Haval has ambitions to be one of the top 10 brands in Australia in the coming years, based on 12 fresh produce over the next XNUMX months.

The influx has already begun: Jolion's new-generation H6 and H2 SUVs are already in showrooms, and a hybrid version of the former will appear before the end of the year to compete with the popular Toyota RAV4 Hybrid.

With GWM Ute now in the stable, the Chinese brand is also hoping to divert attention away from the market-leading Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger, while plans to introduce the off-road-focused Tank brand are already in the works.

Similar in size and design to the new Haval H9 is the recently introduced Tank 600, with the latter delivering 260kW/500Nm from a turbocharged 3.0-litre petrol engine.
