Children are not safe

More than 80 percent of parents believe that Polish roads are dangerous for children. However, only 15 percent. takes real steps to improve the safety of their children on the road.

An all-Russian survey conducted as part of the "Safety for All" program shows that the greatest threats to children are: drivers driving too fast (54,5%), driver inattention (45,8%), lack of signals at pedestrian crossings (25,5. 20,6%), no roadside (21,7%) and drunk drivers (15%). About XNUMX percent of parents noticed that children's ignorance of the rules of the road is also dangerous.

Meanwhile, according to the interviewed parents, their children most often get to school on foot (34,6%). Approximately the same number of people indicated two other ways: on foot, accompanied by a parent or another person (29,7%) and by car (29,7%).

Less than half (46,5%) of the parents surveyed talk to other parents about ways to improve road safety. Of this group, only 30 percent. takes some action. This means that only about 15% of people take real action. items.

Among the activities they initiated, parents quite often mentioned petitions for the installation of lighting and requests to local authorities to hire people who will transfer children across the road and accompany them to school. The leading group is made up of women, who are definitely more active than men (49,2% of women versus 38,8% of men).

Perhaps the lack of active participation in improving the safety of children on the roads is due to the belief that the responsibility for this activity lies with others. Nearly half of the respondents felt that local police should act to improve road safety. However, the same number of respondents are not aware of the activities carried out by the police in this area.
