Diesel engines: reasons why they use different engine oils

The correct operation of a diesel engine requires a lubricating oil specially formulated for diesel engines, not for gasoline engines.

Diesel engines work differently and with different products than those used by gasoline engines because these engines have different components, different technology and even the oil is different too.

Generally speaking, diesel engine oil is formulated in the same way as gasoline engine oil.

The two types of lubricating oils are made up of a mixture of lubricating base oils and additives, but they differ in protection requirements for each type of engine they are supposed to protect.

For proper operation of a diesel engine, it requires a lubricating oil specially formulated for diesel engines, not for gasoline engines. 

Here we will tell you about some of the reasons why diesel engines need a special oil.

– Catalytic converter. Its task is to convert toxic emissions into derivatives that are safe for the atmosphere and the environment. This is where it all starts, because lubricating oils for diesel and gasoline engines are different.

– Oil for diesel engines. Contains zinc dialkyldithiophosphate, which gives it a higher level of wear protection. Consequently, diesel engine catalytic converters are ready to absorb diesel emissions, but car catalytic converters are not.

- additives. This oil contains an increased level of additives, among them anti-friction additives, which allow engines to withstand hard work.

- Go. Typically, diesel engine oils have a much higher viscosity than oils designed for gasoline engines, so if we use this type of oil where they do not belong, many problems will arise.

We must be careful to use the correct oil for each engine. Using the wrong oil can have serious and costly consequences.
