Donkervoort JD70: sporty as it once was... – Sports Cars

Donkervoort will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its founder, Joop Donkervoort, with the launch of a new one minimalist sportswoman exceptional, the JD70. The Dutch brand faithfully follows the sporting spirit of yesteryear when cars were minimum and they were characterized above all by their lightness, thanks to which they did not need overly powerful engines.

Light and without frills, as it once was ...

At least this was the philosophy of Colin Chapman, the brilliant founder of Lotus. A philosophy very present also in the Donkervoort, since its first products were precisely the elaborate evolutions of the Lotus Seven. Even today, the characteristics of the models of the Dutch brand have evident roots with this past.

The brand itself recognizes that its products go against the grain. They are light, yes, but they give up some accessories that customers still consider basic and essential. In addition, the absence of the now standard driver assistance systems. There JD70 can be considered as an evolution or special version of the D8 GTO and only 70 copies will be manufactured, like the founder's years.

395 hp and less than 700 kg: 2kg / hp

Maintains the carbon fiber frame - with a total weight less than 700 kg - and the same engine as the D8 GTO, the 5-cylinder 2,5-liter (the same as the Audi TT RS), in this case with 395 CV. That would be to say one power weight ratio of 2kg / CV. The performance of this retro gem has not yet been revealed, but it will maintain, if not improve, the 0-1000 in less than 3 seconds of the D8 GTO and the 265 km / h top speed. It will be marketed next year with a price of 163.636 euros.
