In car doors, apart from the hinges that enable any movement, the so-called limiters. It's worth taking care of them.

Their task, as the name implies, is to prevent the door from opening above the set range. Should this happen, the door and other adjacent body parts could be mutually damaged. Older readers have certainly seen the characteristic dents on the front fenders and front doors in Polish Fiat 125p, caused by damage to the stops in these doors. It should be added that the repair of such damage is not easy, because the deformation of the surface affects places where we are dealing with the so-called partially closed profile.

The door stoppers are designed in a variety of ways, ranging from a simple tape of appropriate length, fixed between the post and the door, to mechanisms that use sliding and rotating elements in their structure. Where metal surfaces come into contact with each other in connection with their movement in relation to each other, it is necessary to ensure appropriate cooperation conditions by periodic lubrication. Otherwise, the mating components may seize over time, which usually leads to their destruction.

A fading door stop, like a hinge, begins to squeak. First treated with a penetrating preparation, then thoroughly cleaned, and then lubricated with an appropriate agent, it has a chance to fulfill its role for a long time. Without the above-mentioned measures, it will surely work for some time, creaking more and more, until it finally becomes completely silent, because it will simply break, exposing the door to serious damage.
