Engine 125 2T - what is worth knowing?

The 125 2T engine was developed back in the 2nd century. The breakthrough was that the intake, compression and ignition of the fuel, as well as the cleaning of the combustion chamber, occurred in one revolution of the crankshaft. In addition to ease of operation, the main advantage of the XNUMXT unit is its high power and low weight. That's why so many people choose the 125 2T engine. The designation 125 refers to the capacity. What else is worth knowing?

How does the 125 2T engine work?

The 2T block has a reciprocating piston. During operation, it generates mechanical energy by burning fuel. In this case, one complete cycle takes a revolution of the crankshaft. The 2T engine can be either gasoline or diesel (diesel).

"Two-stroke" is a term colloquially used for a valveless gasoline engine with mixed lubricant and a spark plug (or more) operating on a two-stroke principle. The characteristics of the 2T block make it affordable and easy to operate, as well as low specific gravity.

Devices that use a 2T motor

Manufacturers decided to assemble motors in such cars as Trojan, DKW, Aero, Saab, IFA, Lloyd, Subaru, Suzuki, Mitsubishi. In addition to the vehicles mentioned above, the engine was installed on diesel locomotives, trucks and aircraft. In turn, the 125 2T engine is commonly used in motorcycles, mopeds, scooters and karts.

Interestingly, the 125 2T engine also powers portable tools. These include chainsaws, brush cutters, brush cutters, vacuum cleaners, and blowers. The list of devices with a two-stroke engine is completed by diesel engines, which are used in power plants to drive electric generators and on ships.

Best 125cc 2T Motorcycles - Honda NSR

One of them, of course, is the Honda NSR 125 2T, which was produced from 1988 to 1993. The characteristic sporty silhouette is combined with a thoughtful design that provides good control and safety on the road. In addition to the basic R version, F (naked variant) and SP (Sport Production) are also available.

Honda uses a 125cc liquid-cooled two-stroke engine with a diaphragm valve intake system. There is also an exhaust system with an RC-Valve exhaust valve that changes the opening time of the exhaust port on a two-stroke engine. All this is complemented by a 6-speed gearbox. The 125 2T engine from the Honda NSR is reliable and easy to maintain, with spare parts readily available. It develops power up to 28,5 hp.

Yamaha's iconic 125cc two-stroke motocross bike.

The Yamaha YZ125 has been in production since 1974. Motocross is powered by a 124,9cc single-cylinder two-stroke unit. Quality has been proven by excellent results in the AMA National Motocross Championships as well as the AMA Regional Supercross Championships.

Worth a look at the 2022 version. This Yamaha has more power, more maneuverability, which allows you to get great pleasure from riding. The device is liquid cooled. It is also equipped with a reed valve. It has a compression ratio of 8.2-10.1:1 and uses a Hitachi Astemo Keihin PWK38S carburetor. All this is complemented by a 6-speed constant speed transmission and a multi-plate wet clutch. It will work great on any track.

The 125 2T engine in motorcycles - why is it produced less and less?

The 125T engine is less and less available for purchase. This is due to their negative impact on the environment. The level of exhaust toxicity in some models was quite high. This was the result of using a mixture of fuel and a small amount of oil. The combination of substances was necessary because the task of lubrication, incl. the crank mechanism consumed a lot of fuel.

Due to the performance, many manufacturers have decided to return to the production of 125 2T engines. However, wanting to comply with the guidelines that were associated with exhaust emission standards. The design of two-stroke engines became much more complicated, and the generated power was also not as high as before.
