The 2JZ-FSE engine is the latest in the development line of JZ engines for Toyota vehicles. The 2JZ-GE model was taken as the basis for the design and development of this engine, but in addition, it combines the best qualities of other engines in the JZ series. The year 2 can be considered the start date for the active assembly of 2000JZ-FSE engines and their installation on Toyota cars.
Features and positive qualities
It would be fair to say that this model is a modification. For example, from the 1JZ-FSE engine, called D4, the 2JZ-FSE inherited direct fuel injection, with an increased displacement and a significantly higher compression ratio, which in the new model was 11,3: 1. As for power, it has grown significantly compared to the native 2JZ-GE engine. In addition, fuel consumption has significantly decreased, and the environmental friendliness of this model has also increased due to the fact that the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere has decreased. As for the emissions of the 2JZ-FSE model, it should be noted the competent approach of the design engineers who implemented this in an innovative direct injection technology without power loss, which was not the case in previous models. The high power of 217 hp undoubtedly allowed the consumer to experience real drive and an instant increase in speed, which is supported by a high torque of 294 Nm.
Disadvantages of the toyota 2JZ-FSE engine
Unfortunately, nothing is perfect. The 2JZ-FSE engine model is no exception, during the operation of which problems were observed. Among the main problems were the following:
- Vibrations in the engine;
- After some time of operation, there were problems with "idling";
- Gas lag, which is especially noticeable at start.
This is evidenced not only by the official recognition of the developers, but also by numerous reviews and complaints from consumers. Among other shortcomings, according to consumers, one can single out a high consumption of gasoline, small twitches of the car at low speeds.
As for the shortcomings of this engine, the manufacturer corrected most of them, offering its customers free maintenance. The remaining shortcomings are either insignificant or easily solved by the owner during operation.

The VVT-i system is a custom development from Toyota that is classified as an intelligent fuel injection system. The big plus of this system is the high number of revolutions at low thrust. The internal valves are designed so that their open/close system is beneficial to the overall capability of the engine. The DOHC system allows the use of more valves per cylinder. In turn, this allows you to get an increase in speed and more power. The disadvantage of such a system is its high cost, which is caused by a large number of parts.
