The 3.2 FSi engine from the Audi A6 C6 - what was the difference between the engine and the car?

The car was equipped with a 3.2 FSi V6 engine. The gasoline unit turned out to be economical both in urban and off-road conditions, as well as in the combined cycle. In addition to the successful engine, the car itself achieved excellent results in Euro NCAP tests, earning five stars out of five.

3.2 V6 FSi engine - technical data

The gasoline engine uses a direct fuel injection system. The engine was located longitudinally in front of the car, and its total volume was 3197 cm3. The bore of each cylinder was 85,5 mm with a stroke of 92,8 mm.

The compression ratio was 12.5. The engine developed a power of 255 hp. (188 kW) at 6500 rpm. The maximum torque was 330 Nm at 3250 rpm. The unit worked with a 6-speed gearbox and all-wheel drive.

Drive operation

The engine consumed about 10,9 l/100 km on the combined cycle, 7,7 l/100 km on the highway and 16,5 l/100 km in the city. The total capacity of the tank was 80 liters and on a full tank the car could drive about 733 kilometers. Engine CO2 emissions remained constant at 262 g/km. For proper use of the power unit, it was necessary to use 5W30 oil.

Burnout is a common problem

The most common problem is carbon buildup on the intake ports. This is due to the use of direct fuel injection, when the injectors supply the substance directly to the cylinders. For this reason, gasoline is not a natural valve cleaner, where dirt accumulates and negatively affects the air circulation in the engine. A sign is a significant reduction in the power of the drive unit.

Luckily, there are several solutions to help the vehicle owner avoid this situation. The easiest of these is to remove the intake and valve covers, as well as the head, and wipe the carbon from the dirty channels and the back of the valves. For this, you can use Dremel tools or other tools with a fine sanding attachment. This should be done regularly - every 30 thousand. km.

Audi A6 C6 - a successful project of the German manufacturer

It is worth knowing more about the car itself. The first model introduced was the 4F sedan. It was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2004. A sedan variant was shown at the Pinakothek Art Nouveau in the same year. Two years later, the S6, S6 Avant and Allroad Quattro versions appeared at the Geneva Motor Show.

It should be noted that most of the purchased A6 models were equipped with a diesel version. The preferred engine group ranged from 2,0 to 3,0 liters (100-176 kW), while the petrol engine range ranged from 2,0 to 5,2 liters (125-426 kW).

A6 C6 car design

The body design of the car was streamlined, it was the exact opposite of the previous generation. Four years after the start of production, numerous LED lights were added to its equipment - in xenon headlights, taillights, as well as enlarged exterior rear-view mirrors with integrated turn indicators, and the front end of the A6 C6 body was also changed. It was supplemented with small fog lamps and larger air intakes.

Following initial feedback from users, Audi has also improved the ride comfort in the passenger compartment. It was decided to improve the sound insulation of the cabin and improve the suspension. A 190 hp version has also been added to the line of installed power units. (140 kW) and a maximum torque of 400 Nm - 2.7 TDi.

Significant changes introduced in 2008

In 2008, it was also decided to change the car's operating system. Its body was lowered by 2 centimeters, and the two highest gears of the transmission were moved to longer ones. This allowed to reduce fuel consumption.

Audi engineers also decided to replace the existing optional tire pressure monitoring system, which relied on internal wheel sensors, with a system without internal sensors.. Thus, the tire pressure messages sent by the system are more accurate.

Is the 3,2 FSi engine in the Audi A6 C6 a good combination?

The drive from the German manufacturer is very reliable, and problems associated, for example, with accumulated soot, are solved simply - with regular cleaning. The engine, despite the years that have passed, still performs well in many cases, so there is no shortage of well-maintained A6 C6 models on the roads.

The car itself, if previously in the right hands, is not too prone to corrosion, and the elegant interior and still fresh design encourage buyers to buy it in a used version. Taking into account the above questions, we can conclude that the 3.2 FSi engine in the Audi A6 C6 is a successful combination.
