In addition, several details have been improved on the new ZR engine series to improve overall driving performance. Improvements succumbed: hydraulic lifters and crankshaft deaxage. Owners of cars of the Corolla family could feel these improvements for themselves, because it was this modification of the motor that was installed on these cars. Later, they began to be installed on models of classes "B", "C" and "D", as well as on minivans and SUVs based on them, for example, on Toyota Isis and RAV4.

Despite most of the improvements and many improvements, these engines had significant shortcomings that cannot be ignored. Previous production series had problems with huge oil consumption, but now this problem has become less horrendous than before. Oil consumption has become from 250 to 350 ml. per 1000 km. In order to somehow reduce consumption, it is advised to use oils that have a higher viscosity. The 3ZR-FAE engine, according to official documents, mentions some more possible problems that may arise during operation. These are mainly errors in some electronic programs, such as EVAP errors, problems with hot start and loud noise of the coolant pump, as well as some parts that require frequent replacement.

Positive sides

The 3ZR-FAE is a great addition to the ZR series. The characteristics of the 3ZR-FAE have become much better, which means that the engine of this series has become more economical, but at the same time powerful. It has a volume of 2,0 liters. Power has been noticeably increased and now it is 158 hp. at 6200 rpm. The engine torque has also been improved and now at only 4400 rpm it is 144 kg * m. Gasoline consumption has become noticeably less. Now the consumption per 100 kilometers has become equal to about 10 liters in the city.
