Hyundai D4BF engine
Content
The production of this engine was launched back in 1986. The first car to be fitted with the D4BF was the first generation Pajero. Then the Korean Hyundai took over it and began to install it on the Porter, Galloper, Terrakan and others models.
D4BF operation on different types of vehicles
In the commercial sphere, the car engine is the most important link, since income directly depends on its capabilities. Hyundai Porter is just such a car. It is equipped with a 4 liter D2,4BF engine. The truck maneuvers well in the city, because it is small. At the same time, it has an excellent carrying capacity - 2 tons.
Another Hyundai model, called Galloper, is also equipped with a D4BF engine. This is no longer a truck, but a jeep designed for different solutions. The power plant is made on this car in two versions: in the usual version and with a turbocharger.
The difference between these modifications is huge: if the simple version of the internal combustion engine (that on the Porter) produces only 80 liters. with., then the turbocharged modification (D4BF) is capable of developing power up to 105 liters. With. And at the same time, the fuel consumption practically does not increase. Thus, the Galloper SUV consumes only XNUMX liters of diesel more than the compact Porter truck.
Hyundai Porter, equipped with a 5-speed gearbox and the described engine, consumes about 11 liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers.
Causes of problems with D4BF
Each breakdown of the power unit is connected with something. It is important to be able to distinguish between the causes of D4BF faults. In fact, there are not so many of them.
- Incorrect, excessive operation adversely affects the operation of the diesel unit, leading to rapid wear of pistons, liners and other elements.
- Failure to comply with the maintenance rules also leads to various problems. For example, if you change the oil after a 10th run or even less often, the engine may clatter. The manufacturer himself indicates that the replacement should be carried out every 6-7 thousand kilometers. It is also important to fill in quality oil, and not just anything.
- The use of low grade diesel fuel is the cause of almost all D4BF malfunctions that occur early.
- The injection pump is closely related to the operation of the engine. If, for example, in Hyundai Porter the pump starts to junk, it is necessary to urgently inspect the motor as well. Low-quality diesel fuel containing water, dust particles and other impurities brings significant harm to the high-pressure fuel pump.
- Nobody canceled the natural wear and tear of parts. After a certain mileage on D4BF, almost any motor unit can fail.
Details and knots | Problem |
---|---|
Gaskets and seals | On D4BF they often leak and cause high oil consumption. Therefore, they should be changed frequently. |
Balancing belt | Poor quality, with a low resource, requires replacement every 50 thousand kilometers. |
Crankshaft pulley | Quickly falls into disrepair, begins to make noise. |
Spray nozzles | Over time, they fail, there is a smell of diesel fuel in the cabin. |
Thermal clearances of valves | They must be adjusted every 15 thousand kilometers, otherwise engine problems will begin. |
Block head | It begins to crack in the area of the vortex chambers if the vehicle is overloaded. |
Signs of motor malfunctions
The first bells of engine overhaul can be identified by the following features:
- the car suddenly began to consume more fuel;
- the supply of diesel fuel from the injection pump to the nozzles became unstable;
- the timing belt began to leave its place;
- a leak was detected from the high pressure pump;
- the engine emits extraneous sounds, makes noise;
- Too much smoke is generated from the muffler.
It is extremely important to pay attention to these symptoms, to carry out maintenance in a timely manner. Avoid aggressive driving style, do not overload the car, always check new fuel cells for defects and poor quality. Carry out the oil change according to the manufacturer's requirements, always fill in good formulations.
- Good oil must have a quality certificate.
- It must be synthetic and have a long service life.
- The lubricant must be resistant to oxidation and have high lubricating properties.
D4BF rework
Amateurs often attribute the modernization of a native engine to its unimpressive characteristics. It would seem that such a huge potential (clearly visible on Galloper), but remains undisclosed. For this reason, tuner minders decide to install a turbine, thereby turning a dull and gray engine into a D4BH.
You don't need to buy anything expensive, apart from the compressor, the intake manifold from the D4BH and the radiator for the intercooler. In addition, you will need the following kit.
- Radiator brackets.
- Drill with a drill bit for metal.
- Piping kit.
- Aluminum hose with a kink at the end.
- New hardware: clamps, nuts, bolts.
First of all, it is necessary to dismantle the native collector, having previously removed the battery and its metal box. This is done in order to open access to the intake mountings. Next, install the intercooler and a new intake manifold. A plug must be placed on the EGR valve. It is also necessary to close the corresponding recirculation hole on the intake manifold.
It remains to integrate the intake and radiator with each other using a standard pipe. The turbine is connected to the manifold using a prepared piping and aluminum tube.
Well, tips in the end.
- If the climate of the operating area of the car is warm, it is recommended to install an additional fan with a temperature sensor, as on Stareks. This will allow the intercooler radiator to not get too hot, which is placed horizontally. You can even install an ordinary VAZ radiator from the stove, if that.
- It is advisable to use an inlet from Terrakan, since it is designed to work with an electronic injection pump, and not with a mechanical one, as on Galloper, Delika or Pajero.
- If it is not possible to accurately fix the intercooler in the engine compartment, you need to drill holes in the car body and install the brackets.
