Hyundai J3 engine

Since the late 1990s, the Korean factory began to assemble the 2,9-liter J3 power unit. It was intended for installation on a number of commercial models of the company. However, with the beginning of the 2000s, the motor migrated under the hoods of the famous SUVs Terracan and Carnival. The J family includes several diesel engines, but except for the J3, all others are not used in passenger cars.

The 16-valve Hyundai J3 was produced in two versions: conventional atmospheric and turbocharged. Diesel develops a power of about 185 liters. With. (turbo) and 145 hp. With. (atmospheric). But it is interesting that on the turbocharged version, simultaneously with an increase in power, the consumption of diesel fuel was reduced from 12 liters to 10. No wonder, because fuel injection is carried out by the Common Rail Delphi system.

The cylinder block is strong, cast iron, but the head is mostly aluminum. Of the features of this engine, the presence of an intercooler and hydraulic lifters can be distinguished. The arrangement of the cylinders is in-line. One has 4 valves.

TNVD delivers the most problems

The injection pump and nozzles cause the most problems - and this is not surprising, since this is a diesel unit. As for other problems, they are presented below:

  • strong carbon formation due to burnout of nozzle washers;
  • increase in fuel consumption after repair, which is caused by contamination of the pipes and tank;
  • periodic freezing at certain speeds due to glitches of the electronic control unit;
  • cranking of liners due to oil starvation caused by clogging of the receiver.

The engine does not tolerate low-grade diesel fuel with water impurities at all. Installing a special separator and regularly updating the fuel filter will help solve this problem.

OwnerThe motor is definitely powerful, but the diesel engine is electronic, turbo + intercooler. My opinion is that it is heavily screwed. At least my experience of operating such a diesel engine ended with a head repair, it cracked. Plus, I think our diesel fuel is not of very high quality for an electronic diesel engine, although at work with a friend, this one has been operated in a hard mode for 1,5 years and everything is fine. People put separators in front of the filter, it helps a lot.

RadeonTo be honest, I have no idea where it is or what it looks like. Noticed this summer driving down a very bumpy road, got tired of keeping my foot on the gas. I just put it in first gear and folded my legs under me. Before a good climb, I prepared to step on the gas, but before that I decided to check how high I would climb and when the diesel would start to sneeze. And the motor, slightly cursing, climbed up the hill itself. My eyes widened when BONGA climbed up the hill herself. Tried a couple more times after that, same result. In this case, turnovers are not added.

I have such an idea that this lotion works on the RTO and should keep constant speed depending on the load on the shaft.
KhokholRTO has nothing to do with it, when I chose a car, I also rode versions without it, and you can still get under way without touching the gas pedal. Engine, feeling RPM drop below H.H. like it's gassing itself up. All control is electronic, even the gas pedal without a cable, some wires depart from it, so it was not difficult to program such a chip into the engine control unit. And in models with PTO, there is a hand throttle to set the speed of the power take-off shaft drive. 
SlaventySuch a thing has a nuance, it can get out of habit sideways. If you slow down in front of an obstacle without depressing the clutch (as taught), then when you release the brake pedal, the machine simply jumps forward onto this obstacle. Didn't notice? I did not soon get used to squeezing the clutch, even if you need to slow down a little. 
PavlovanIt annoys me too! I think if the clutch fails prematurely, then half of the blame for this will be this stray ...
Gordstwo-cabin KIA BONGO-3, it is six-seater (three in front and three in the back), turbodiesel volume is 2900 cc. and CRDI electronic fuel system. I have one and I'm quite satisfied, as long as I don't aspire to the Japanese. 
SymeonI suspect that every year the J3 2,9 is upgraded and a little more powerful is added to it. 140 may well be on the freshest.
