Lada Grant produced by the Volzhsky Automobile Plant since December 2011. As promised by representatives of Avtovaz, the car will be equipped with different engines, depending on the configuration. The cheapest version, which starts at 229 rubles, is equipped with an eight-valve 000-liter engine and 1,6 horsepower. And in the standard configuration, the cost of which is 82 rubles, an 256-valve engine is also installed, of the same volume, but already with a higher power up to 000 hp. But why is the power of a conventional 8-valve engine exactly 89 horsepower, and not 8 hp, as, for example, on the same car with the same engine Lada Kalina.

The thing is that on the new Lada Granta cars, starting with the standard configuration, an engine with a lightweight connecting rod-piston group is installed, due to this, the power of the Granta engine is increased by 7 horsepower. What these extra seven horses will give, many car owners think. But in fact, the difference between a conventional Kalina engine and a Granta engine with a lightweight ShPG is very significant.

Firstly: thanks to the changes in the design of the engine, it has become much quieter than usual, and now there is no longer that strange sound, bubbling like a diesel engine. The engine now runs quieter and smoother, and the sound itself is much softer and more pleasant. Although, if you listen to the operation of the engine with an open hood, then the sound is approximately the same as that of the Kalina engine.

Modification of the Lada Grants will also include a luxury car and a 98 horsepower engine from the Priora. But the price of such cars will start from 300 rubles, you have to pay for the speed and dynamics, and the fuel consumption on the 000-valve Priorovsky engine will be slightly less. But in addition to the advantages, this engine also has its disadvantages. Everyone knows the problem of our 16-valve engines, this applies to VAZ 16 2112 1,5-valve engines, and 16-valve Priora engines, in these engines, when the timing belt breaks, the valve bends, and engine repair can be quite expensive. Using the example of previous VAZ 16 models, engine repair in case of a timing belt breakage can cost from 2112 to 10 thousand rubles.

What can I say, you have to pay for everything, if you want comfort and a modern engine on the Grant, you will have to pay much more money, and in case of repair, you can also go broke a little. And when operating with an 8-valve engine, there will be fewer problems, but also less comfort, so to speak, for a calm measured drive.

    The engine of the Lada Grants is actually running a little quieter if you listen to it inside the cabin, but on the street I would not say! My Kalina will be a little quieter!

    I changed my Seven to Grant, I am happy as an elephant, as for the engine, it works incomparably quieter than on the classics, almost silently. And the engine power is much more than on the VAZ 2107, it feels like you are driving a foreign car.
