The OM604 is a diesel in-line 4-cylinder engine with a heavy cast iron cylinder block. Produced from 1993 to 1998. The heads are 24-valve, the maximum power is 94 horsepower. Direct fuel injection, double camshaft, DOHC type. The cylinder diameter is 89 mm, the piston stroke is 86,6 mm.
Modifications of the Mercedes-Benz ОМ604 engine
During production, several modifications of the Mercedes-Benz ОМ604 engine were developed, the difference in which was in the engine volume, power and cylinder diameter.
So, OM 604.910 EVE has a volume of 2,2 liters and has a capacity of 74-94 horsepower, and OM 604.917 EVE - 2,0 liters and a capacity of up to 87 horsepower. It is worth noting that later models turned out to be less powerful - the manufacturer relied on the efficiency of the engine.

The engine number is located on the left side of the cylinder block, behind the fuel filter.
OM604 problems
Most often, problems with the operation of the Mercedes-Benz ОМ604 engine arise due to the ingress of water into the fuel or tank. Another disadvantage is the complexity of the repair. The device of some nodes almost does not allow to recover faults. This is the case, for example, with the injection system.
If the Mercedes-Benz ОМ604 overheats, there is a high probability of additional problems, such as cracking of the cylinder head.
Tuning
The power of ОМ604 can be increased by replacing the turbine with a more efficient one. However, in the case of a particular model, the increase in power significantly increases fuel consumption, which makes such modifications economically disadvantageous. Therefore, tuning Mercedes-Benz ОМ604 was not widely used.
