In 2011, Mitsubishi Motors announced the creation of new high-tech engines. One of them 4j11 included a new version of the electrical control of the GDS phases and a unique version of the automatically controlled mechanism for turning on and off the internal combustion engine.

Technical specifications

The engine capacity of the new power plant is 2 liters, the power is 150 hp. This engine is installed on Mitsubishi Delica and Outlander. The engine is powered by regular gasoline AI-92 and AI-95. Consumption is about 6-7 liters per 100 kilometers.

Many experts compare the 4j11 engine with the 4b11. In fact, 4j11 and 4b11 have differences in the number of camshafts - there is one shaft per 4j11. In addition, the new motor has a system for dynamically changing the phases of the GDS.

The MIVEC system works according to the following principle:

  • it regulates the lift of the inlet fitting, as well as the opening time and torque;
  • ensures stable combustion of the fuel liquid;
  • allows to reduce the friction of the piston against the cylinder walls, thereby providing significant fuel savings without loss of power and KM.

For the first time, the system was installed with the aim of increasing the efficiency of the power plant at any speed by just one car. Subsequently, the system was put on the conveyor, it was equipped with various car models.

The use of MIVEC made it possible to increase the power of the power unit by 30 hp. This is the world's first technology introduced for light segment motors without phase rotation.

Myvek successfully controls the functioning of the engine valves in several modes, depending on the engine speed and switching phases. The standard version implies the use of two modes, but on the new motors 4j10 and 4j11 a permanent change is provided.

The principle of operation of the system is as follows:

  • due to the difference in valve lift, the combustion of the fuel liquid is stabilized, which makes it possible to reduce consumption and increase KM;
  • by extending the moment of opening the valves and changing the lift, the values ​​\uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbof the volume of intake and exhaust of fuel increase (the effect of "breathing deeply").

Engine 4j11 with a single camshaft, which makes the design of Myvek more complex than for DOHC (2 camshaft) engines. The difficulty is that SOHC engines must have arched intermediate shafts (rocker arms) for valve control.

As for the design of the valves themselves, the differences depend on the cylinders.

  1. Low lift (low profile cam) with redesigned rocker arm.
  2. Medium lift (medium profile cam).
  3. High-lift (high profile cam).
  4. T-arm, which is integral with the height-lift.

Note that when the engine reaches maximum speed, the internal elements of the power plant are shifted by oil pressure. The T-arm presses on both rockers, and the High-lift controls all the valves and rockers in this way.

Myvek technology was originally conceived as an option for increasing the specific power of internal combustion engines. Indeed, the exhaust resistance decreased, the mixture supply accelerated, the working volume increased, the valve lift was controlled. As a result, the increase in power reached almost 13%.

Then it turns out that Myvek technology also makes it possible to save fuel and improve emission parameters. And with all this, the engine does not lose stability in operation, which is very, very good.

Thus, Mivek technology is three in one:

  • reduced fuel consumption;
  • quick start;
  • reduction of losses at low speeds.

The first effect (reducing fuel consumption) can be achieved through an exhaust gas reuse system. A quick start of the power plant is ensured by late ignition and the provision of a lean fuel assembly. Loss reduction is the result of the use of a dual exhaust manifold using a front catalytic converter.
