6G73 engine problems are almost the same as those found on models of the 6-cylinder family of units. The life of the motor can be extended if regular high-quality maintenance is carried out. It is extremely important to use high quality consumables: oil, fuel, spare parts.

Any engine consumes a certain amount of oil. This is normal, as a small part of the lubricant is burned during the operation of the engine. If the consumption is increased much, this is already a problem. Most often it is associated with valve stem seals and rings. Replacing the elements will help correct the situation.

Their purpose is to protect the cylinders from getting inside the lubricant. They are always in contact with the walls of the combustion chamber, so they constantly rub and wear out.   2. As mentioned above, increased oil consumption can be associated with caps. These are a special type of oil seals made of materials that can withstand high temperatures well. Due to heavy wear, the rubber seal may lose its characteristics and elasticity. The result is leakage and increased consumption. To replace the caps, it is enough to remove the cylinder head - it is not necessary to dismantle the entire engine.
  3. Head gasket. It also tends to dry out over time, as it is made of rubber. For this reason, cylinder head gasket damage is more common on used vehicles. On new machines, this problem is only possible if the bolts are loose. It may be necessary to replace them or fix them with a large tightening torque.
  4. Crankshaft seals are also often squeezed out due to excessive wear, low temperatures, or poor-quality lubricant being poured into the engine. You will have to carry out a major replacement of all seals.
  5. If the 6G73 engine has been turbocharged, oil leaks can increase significantly. In particular, the bushing of the compressor rotor wears out, and the oil system can generally be completely empty. Obviously, the engine will start to work worse, and the first thing to do is test the functioning of the rotor.
  6. Lubricant can also leak through the oil filter. A characteristic feature is spots and smudges under the car. The reason in this case must be sought in a weak tightening of the filter housing or its damage.
  7. A damaged cylinder head cover also causes a leak. It may develop cracks.
