Nissan CR12DE engine

During its existence, the Nissan concern has launched a huge amount of high-quality and innovative products off the assembly lines.

If car models from the Japanese are familiar to everyone, then some engines of their own production are not so well popularized. This state of affairs is unfair, because without such reliable and functional units there would never be a demand for cars of the Japanese concern.

Today our resource would like to highlight the concept, specifications and history of the creation of the Nissan engine - CR12DE. The most important and interesting information about it can be found below.

The concept and history of the creation of the motor

In the transitional period between the past and present centuries, Nissan engineers were faced with the task of updating the engine lines. Despite a good set of those, the moral and technical "old age" of the Japanese engines could not be denied, and the situation required changes.

The manufacturer approached the creation of new units responsibly, showing the world several high-quality and innovative units. One of them was the CR12DE under consideration today.Nissan CR12DE engine

This motor belongs to the series marked "CR", the production of which began in 2001. The power plants from this line are represented by small-cubator, gasoline, 4-stroke and 4-cylinder internal combustion engines in three different variations. CR12DE is an "average" unit and has a volume of 1,2 liters, its closest counterparts are 1 and 1,4, respectively.

In principle, the concept of the motor in question is quite primitive and easy to understand. You can learn basic information about CR12DE by deciphering its name, in which:

  • CR - a series of motors;
  • 12 - multiple of 10 volume in liters (1,2);
  • D - DOHC gas distribution system, automatically referring the installation to 4-cylinder and 16-valve units;
  • E - electronic multi-point or distributed fuel supply (in other words, an injector).

The considered power plant was built using aluminum technology, which is standard for engines of the 00s and for modern engines. Both the head and its block are cast from high-quality aluminum and rarely break.

Despite such a simple design and small volume, the CR12DE fell in love with all Nissan fanatics. This is due to the excellent quality of this motor and its unpretentiousness in use. No wonder it is still popular and is actively produced to equip machines within the concern.Nissan CR12DE engine

Note! The CR12DE was produced by Nissan in different power variations, which depend on the limiters installed in the design of the motors. On average, the power of those according to the data sheet is 90 horsepower. However, the possibility of its variation between 65-110 "horses" should not be ruled out. You can only find out the exact power of a particular CR12DE from its technical documentation. You shouldn't forget about it.

Repair and service

All motors of the CR line are low-cubator and are installed only in lightweight cars, so the simplicity of their design gives them one significant plus - a high level of reliability. The CR12DE is no exception, which is why it fell in love with all motorists who encountered it. According to most of them, the motor is extremely reliable and has no typical malfunctions. More or less common problems with this engine are:

  • Timing chain knock.
  • Increased appetite for oil.
  • The appearance of its smudges.

The development of the noted "diseases" is an infrequent phenomenon, but if proper maintenance and long-term operation of the CR12DE is ignored, it still occurs. All problems with this engine are solved by overhaul. You can spend it at any specialized Nissan service station or in another good auto center.

The masters do not have problems with repairing the CR12DE due to the already considered primitiveness of their design. As for tuning the engine under review, in most cases it is not advisable. The reliability and resource of the CR12DE is not bad, but it is not designed for serious loads. This implies the need to strengthen the entire structure of the unit during its "promotion".

Naturally, the implementation of such manipulations will cost a lot of money compared to the cost of the motor itself. Whether it's worth it or not - decide for yourself. In any case, more than 140-150 horsepower can not be squeezed out of the CR12DE. Sometimes it's easier to buy a knowingly more powerful installation and not bother.
