The concept and history of the creation of the motor
In the transitional period between the past and present centuries, Nissan engineers were faced with the task of updating the engine lines. Despite a good set of those, the moral and technical "old age" of the Japanese engines could not be denied, and the situation required changes.
The manufacturer approached the creation of new units responsibly, showing the world several high-quality and innovative units. One of them was the CR12DE under consideration today.
This motor belongs to the series marked "CR", the production of which began in 2001. The power plants from this line are represented by small-cubator, gasoline, 4-stroke and 4-cylinder internal combustion engines in three different variations. CR12DE is an "average" unit and has a volume of 1,2 liters, its closest counterparts are 1 and 1,4, respectively.

Note! The CR12DE was produced by Nissan in different power variations, which depend on the limiters installed in the design of the motors. On average, the power of those according to the data sheet is 90 horsepower. However, the possibility of its variation between 65-110 "horses" should not be ruled out. You can only find out the exact power of a particular CR12DE from its technical documentation. You shouldn't forget about it.
Repair and service
All motors of the CR line are low-cubator and are installed only in lightweight cars, so the simplicity of their design gives them one significant plus - a high level of reliability. The CR12DE is no exception, which is why it fell in love with all motorists who encountered it. According to most of them, the motor is extremely reliable and has no typical malfunctions. More or less common problems with this engine are:
- Timing chain knock.
- Increased appetite for oil.
- The appearance of its smudges.
The development of the noted "diseases" is an infrequent phenomenon, but if proper maintenance and long-term operation of the CR12DE is ignored, it still occurs. All problems with this engine are solved by overhaul. You can spend it at any specialized Nissan service station or in another good auto center.
The masters do not have problems with repairing the CR12DE due to the already considered primitiveness of their design. As for tuning the engine under review, in most cases it is not advisable. The reliability and resource of the CR12DE is not bad, but it is not designed for serious loads. This implies the need to strengthen the entire structure of the unit during its "promotion".
