Nissan SR16VE engine
Content
Nissan from the day of its creation has specialized not only in the assembly of cars, but also in the creation of components for them. Especially popular are the engines of the Japanese automaker.
You can find in the manufacturer's model lines both budget, low-power units, and sports motors.
Today, our resource would like to highlight something in between, namely, the SR16VE ICE. Read about the concept, structural features and operation of this installation below.
About the creation and features of the motor
Engines from the "SR" line came to replace Nissan's internal combustion engines with the "CA" marking. New power plants were significantly redesigned and came out in variations of 1,6-2 liters of volume. Mostly, the "SR" motors were intended for light and medium models. They were used exclusively within the framework of the automaker and were not installed in the partner model.
The SR16VE engine considered today is the weakest in the entire series, but it was far from the first to be designed. Its base is considered to be SR20VE, which "gave" all the best to a less cubic capacity fellow.
The main difference between the new motor was the use of a short-stroke crankshaft and a lightweight version of the CPG.
Otherwise, the SR16VE is completely identical to the SR20VE and has:
- Aluminum cylinder head.
- Aluminum cylinder block with steel manifolds.
- About 175 horsepower.
- Injection power system.
- Gas distribution with phase change.
The SR16VE was produced for only three years - from 1997 to 2000. The motor did not find great popularity, but it could become some transitional link in all created Nissan engines.
Note that the unit in question had a more powerful variation with 200 "horses" - SR16VE N1. It was used in an extremely limited series and, similarly to a less powerful brother, did not receive popularity.

Repair and service
Despite the short production time and its small scale, the SR16VE positions itself as an excellent high quality motor.
There are no significant problems in its operation, there are no typical breakdowns. If we consider the reviews of the owners of the motor, then we can distinguish:
- Rare problems with unstable idle.
- Great appetite for oil, which appears when using low-quality fuel and the absence of overhauls.
SR16VE is repairable, so there will be no problems in this regard. You can take the engine for diagnostics and repair to any service station.
Note that the SR16VE could be improved. Tuning this internal combustion engine is not an easy task, but it is quite feasible. To do this, it will be necessary to strengthen the design of the motor (the timing should not be touched) and install a turbine. Naturally, one cannot do without increasing the compression ratio to 12-13 bar. With a competent approach, you can “squeeze out” about 16-230 horsepower from the SR250VE, but no more.
