Nissan SR20VE engine

The Nissan SR20VE engine was based on the SR20. In fact, it is a sports atmospheric version of this motor. First launched in 1997. The first modification had 190 horsepower at 7000 rpm.

The SR20VE differs from the SR20DE more in a compression ratio of 11. Also in the sports version, the NEO VVL valve lift change system and the variable valve timing system are used. The second modification of the motor was developed specifically for the Nissan Primera.

Engine Variations

The most powerful version of the SR20VE internal combustion engine was developed specifically for Nissan X-Trail GT cars and was not installed on Silvia and Primera. This is a turbocharged version of the SR20VE, which is labeled SR20VET. The production of an engine with a turbocharger continued from 2001 to 2007. In the most powerful variation of the power unit, modified camshafts were used and the compression ratio was reduced.

The SR20VET uses a Garrett T28 turbo with 0,6 bar boost. The turbocharger helps reach 280 horsepower (6400 rpm). An interesting fact is that another sports version of the motor was created on the basis of the SR20VET. The unit was marked SR16VE.

Engines of the SR20 series do not need valve adjustment, as they are equipped with hydraulic compensators. The exception is the SR20VE, where these devices are missing. Therefore, the valves must be adjusted without fail. Also a common feature of all engines of the SR20 series is the timing drive on the chain. The chain is able to pass an average of 200 to 250 thousand kilometers.

Motor reliability

The reliability of the SR20VE is beyond doubt. Durability has been tested over the years, and no significant shortcomings have been identified over a long period of operation.

Some dissatisfaction is caused by a floating idle, indicating a failure of the idle speed controller. Also, unstable operation may indicate the use of low-quality gasoline or the incorrect operation of the air flow meter.

As for other breakdowns, it is worth highlighting the frequent failure of the DMRV sensor. Leads to insufficient acceleration dynamics and uneven operation of the drive.
