Nissan VQ25HR is a 2.5-liter engine, which is the youngest in the HR family and is a V-shaped 6-cylinder unit. It appeared in 2006, received a forged crankshaft and connecting rods, a timing chain drive, and was made without hydraulic compensators.

Exploitation
VQ25HR is a powerful engine with maximum torque at high speeds. This means that the motor must be turned and not “dragged” at low speeds in the region of 2000 rpm, as many drivers do. If you constantly operate the internal combustion engine at low speeds, then coking is possible, which will lead to the occurrence of oil scraper rings. This will become apparent from the high oil consumption, so it is advisable to systematically control its level after 100 thousand kilometers.
According to the owners, the timing chain does not ring after 100 thousand kilometers (the manufacturer recommends replacing it after 200-250 thousand km.), And the cost of replacing it is low, which is also a plus. A set of original chains and tensioners will cost 8-10 thousand rubles.
Gasoline consumption is high. In winter, with aggressive driving, the engine “eats” 16 liters of fuel, or even more.
It is worth considering that the engine loves speed, and it needs to be untwisted strongly, therefore the consumption is higher. When driving on the highway, gasoline consumption is 10 liters per hundred, which is an acceptable result for a powerful 2.5-liter unit.
Problems
Despite the fact that the VQ25HR engine is reliable and with a high resource, it received some problems:
- Overheat. Prolonged operation at extremely high speeds can lead to overheating. This is very likely to pierce the cylinder head gaskets. As a result, antifreeze will enter the combustion chambers.
- Swimming speed and unstable operation of the internal combustion engine, which is caused by extrusion of oil channel gaskets. The corresponding error will appear on the dashboard.

That is why owners often remove the part of the catalyst that is close to the outlet.
To summarize, the VQ25HR is a reliable and high-quality Japanese engine that is devoid of serious miscalculations and shortcomings that lead to global problems. Therefore, with timely and proper maintenance, the engine will “run” 200 thousand kilometers without breakdowns.
Secondary market
Contract motors VQ25HR are sold at the appropriate sites. Their price depends on the degree of wear, mileage, condition. Non-working units "for spare parts" are sold for 20-25 thousand rubles, working engines can be bought for 45-100 thousand rubles. Of course, the cost of new engines released recently is much higher.
