Suzuki J18A engine
The Suzuki J18A engine was installed on low-cost Suzuki Cultus sedan cars that belonged to the category of compact vehicles. The motor was produced only with a volume of 1,8 liters and a power of 135 horsepower.
The unit was produced only in a gasoline version and was installed only on front-wheel drive vehicles. Works in tandem with manual and automatic transmission.
At one time, Suzuki Cultus with the J18A engine gained popularity due to its sporty, dynamic appearance. Front-wheel drive cars were equipped not only with a 1,8-liter, but with a 1,5-liter internal combustion engine. All-wheel drive versions of cars were also produced, which were assembled with a 1,6-liter engine.
Suzuki Cultus with a J18A engine is an inexpensive version of a car, but at the same time it has various “gadgets”: a remote lock, power windows, power steering, an air conditioning system and other useful options.
Since 1997, a special 1800 Aero series has appeared with additional improvements. The interior design has been improved in the new version. Additionally, sports seats, an improved dial, tinted windows, 15-inch wheels are installed. The aerodynamics of the bodywork has also been improved.

Reliability, weaknesses, maintainability
Suzuki Cultus with a J18A engine are more affordable than, for example, Toyota Kaldina. Moreover, in the east of the Russian Federation, you can find options in a variety of trim levels. At the same time, both the car and the engine are reliable. You can move without major repairs for at least 4-5 years.
Most of the problems are related to the age of the engine. For example, the starter may fail. Especially often such a breakdown occurs in severe frosts. The cause of the breakdown, as a rule, is the destruction of the brush holder. The starter component in some cases is not made of the most durable material, but it is disassembled without problems (manufactured by Mitsubishi).
Also, their battery may fail or it may be necessary to replace the candles. By the way, the latter change relatively infrequently. By itself, shock absorbers break down in a used car on Russian roads over time. As necessary, the front suspension arms, door shock absorbers, front and rear brake hoses are changed.
It is also not uncommon for engine mounts to be replaced. As the mileage increases, the oil in the engine and gearbox changes. Replace spark plugs and filters as needed. The oil seal between the gearbox and the engine may leak.
In general terms, the motor of car owners suits. The smooth operation of the unit is noted. Idling is stable. Each spark plug has a separate coil. At the same time, instead of the usual timing belt, a reliable chain works in the engine.

What kind of oil to fill
The J18A motor, like any other unit, needs a timely oil change, which is done every 7-8 thousand kilometers. For operation in winter, oil with a viscosity of 20w30 and 25w30 is suitable.
In winter, oil with a viscosity of 5w30 is poured. For all-weather use, 10w3 and 15w30 oils are suitable. Of the types of oil, it is better to opt for semi-synthetic or mineral oil.
