The K6A engine was designed, built and put into mass production in 1994. When creating this project, Suzuki relied on the principle of simpler is better. Thus, an internal combustion engine with a linear piston arrangement was born.
The short stroke of the connecting rods made it possible to compactly place the motor in the subcompact compartment. Three cylinders fit in a compact body. The maximum power of the engine is 64 horsepower.
This is not the most powerful unit, later they began to install it on small trucks with permanent all-wheel drive. Good traction was provided by the installation of a turbine and an adaptive gearbox. The Japanese company took a risky step by including a chain drive in the motor package.
For three-cylinder small-sized cars, this version of the timing belt is rare. This allowed to increase the service life, but added noise when working at high speeds.
K6A has several disadvantages that were missed by the developers:
- If the timing chain breaks or jumps a few teeth, the valve will inevitably bend.
- The ICE cover gasket wears out after 50 thousand kilometers. The oil starts squeezing out.
- Low interchangeability of some motor parts. It's easier and cheaper to change the engine completely.

The engine number is located in a not very convenient place. This is considered an omission for manufacturers. On the back of the motor, in the lower part, near the timing chain, you can find the coveted code.
The manufacturer claims a guaranteed motor resource of 150000 kilometers, but as often happens, it is reinsured, since the real period is much longer. With quality service and without accidents, such an internal combustion engine can drive 250 kilometers.
Reliability of the power unit
The Suzuki K6A engine is quite cheap in its segment. The main task for the manufacturer was to keep the cost of the unit as low as possible. They did an excellent job with the task. It turned out to be an inexpensive and competitive motor.
Unfortunately, the materials used in the design do not allow for a full overhaul of all components and assemblies. Some are so simple that they wear out to the limit, affecting neighboring parts. For example, sleeves made of cast iron alloy cannot be replaced after destruction.
The most common failure in K6A is considered to be the burnout of the cylinder head gasket. This is due to the vehicle overheating. The usual laying power reserve is 50 kilometers. Even if the oil is not visible, it is better to change it so that it does not stick to the cap.
In principle, it is not necessary to carry out a major overhaul of the motor, it is better to change the entire motor. Its curb weight is only 75 kilograms. Simplicity and primitiveness allows you to replace it yourself, without special skills. The main thing is that the series of interchangeable units should match.
Important: the main advantage of the Suzuki K6A ICE is its efficiency. It should be remembered that it is desirable to fill the tank with AI 95 gasoline, not 92.

Consumable Replacement
Low-power engines require no less attention than V 12 engines. The oil change schedule is measured not only in mileage, but also in the life of the car. So if the car has stood motionless for six months, regardless of the mileage, it's time to replace the fluid.
As for the oil itself, semi-synthetics can be used in the summer, but synthetics must be poured during cold weather. ICE is not capricious, but sensitivity to poor lubricant remains.
For long-term operation of K6A, it is better to pour engine oil into it from a manufacturer proven over the years. Do not chase low cost, in the end the engine will thank you for it. The fluid change period is 2500 - 3000 kilometers. Mileage is much shorter than other cars. This is because the engine itself is also small in size. In fact, 60 horses are pulling the weight of the car, and the 3-cylinder engine is working for wear. In more powerful sedans with a revving internal combustion engine, the oil resource is longer.

Viscosity index 5W30 for all listed brands of oil manufacturers. Of course, for any engine, motorboats produced at the factory of the machine manufacturer are dearer and better. The Suzuki brand has its own line of motor oils suitable for cars of the same name.
Every second time, the oil filter must be replaced along with the oil. In addition, we must not forget about the cabin filter, as well as the filter element of the engine air intake. The first is changed two or three times a year, the second once.
The fluid in the gearbox is replaced no later than 70 - 80 thousand kilometers. Otherwise, the oil will thicken and collect in one place. The resource of moving parts will sharply decrease.
Engine tuning
ICE for small cars rarely lends itself to forcing. Suzuki is no exception. The only option to increase the power of the motor in this case is to replace the turbine. Initially, a low-power injection unit was installed in the engine.
The same Japanese company offers a more sporty turbine and special firmware for it. This is the maximum, according to manufacturers, that can be squeezed out of this motor.
Of course, some garage craftsmen are able to overclock the power at times. It is only worth remembering that the margin of safety of parts is limited, after all, this is an internal combustion engine for a small car.

Suzuki K6A is easily replaceable. And you can choose a contract engine or original, brand new or used. The weight of the motor is only 75 kilograms. You can find the desired unit in the online store, or in large networks of car repair shops. When choosing, you should definitely rely on the modification of the native internal combustion engine, otherwise, along with the engine, you will also have to replace the gear box trim.
