AvtoVAZ engineers upgraded the VAZ-11183 engine, as a result of which a new engine model was born.

Description

For the first time, the new VAZ-11186 power unit was presented to a wide range of the public in 2011. The demonstration of the motor took place at the Moscow Motor Show MASK in the car Lada Kalina 2192.

The production of internal combustion engines is carried out at the production facilities of AvtoVAZ (Tolyatti).

VAZ-11186 is a four-cylinder in-line gasoline aspirated engine with a volume of 1,6 liters and a capacity of 87 hp. with and a torque of 140 Nm.

Installed on cars Lada and Datsun:

  • Grant 2190-2194 (2011-present);
  • Kalina 2192-2194 (2013-2018);
  • Datsun On-Do 1 (2014-n. vr);
  • Datsun Mi-Do 1 (2015-n. vr).

The engine is identical to its predecessor (VAZ-11183). The main difference lies in the CPG. Additionally, some assembly units and fastenings of service mechanisms have been updated.

The cylinder block remained traditionally cast iron. There are no significant structural changes.

Aluminum cylinder head. To increase the strength, it is heat treated using a new process technology. The changes affected the increase in cooling channels. The head has a camshaft and eight valves.

Hydraulic compressors are not provided. The valve clearance is adjusted manually. The combustion chamber has been increased to 30 cm³ (previously it was 26). This was achieved by reducing the thickness of the gasket and increasing the height of the cylinder head by 1,2 mm.

The pistons in the VAZ-11186 engine are lightweight, made of aluminum alloy.

There are three rings, two of which are compression and one oil scraper. In the area of ​​the first ring, additional anodizing was performed, and a graphite coating was applied to the piston skirt. Piston weight 240 gr. (serial - 350).

The piston configuration does not provide protection against the valves in the event of a broken timing belt. But, engines produced after July 2018 are free from this drawback - the pistons have become plug-in. And the final touch - the VAZ-11186 piston group is completely manufactured at AvtoVAZ.

Receiver updated. An electromechanical throttle valve module (E-gas) is installed at its inlet. It is clear that the appearance of the receiver has become different.

The collector received separate entrances to the housing, which made it possible to reduce the resistance at the exit of exhaust gases. In general, this contributed to a slight increase in the power of the internal combustion engine.

The generator bracket has become structurally more complex. Now it has a timing belt tensioner.

Engine cooling system. The heat exchanger has become single-pass, the thermostat has been replaced by a more advanced one. According to the manufacturer, the refinement of the cooling system completely eliminated the possibility of engine overheating. (Unfortunately, on the ICE under consideration, the results of theory and practice do not always coincide).

In general, the changes embodied in the VAZ-11186 engine have led to an increase in power, a decrease in exhaust toxicity and a decrease in fuel consumption.

Despite the presence of serious weaknesses (more on this below), most car owners and car service masters consider the VAZ-11186 a reliable and economical engine. According to their numerous reviews, the motor differs from its predecessors for the better.

For example, a lot of interesting things can be found in the discussion of the engine on various forums. So, the car owner e writes: “... mileage is already 240000. Oil does not eat. Lew was running 10W-40. The car works in a taxi for days". His interlocutor Alexander expresses himself in tone: “... mileage 276000, the engine works powerfully, stably. True, there was a flashing, and one more time I changed the pump with a belt and a roller».

The reliability of the internal combustion engine is intelligibly indicated by the excess of the service life. A lot of engines easily overcame the mileage bar of 200 thousand km and successfully approached 300 thousand. At the same time, there were no significant breakdowns in the engines.

The reason for the increased service life lies in the timely maintenance of the engine, the use of high-quality fuels and lubricants and an accurate driving style.

There is an easy start of the internal combustion engine in severe frosts, which is a good indicator for the Russian climate.

Additionally, it should be noted that the engine has a good margin of safety, allowing for tuning with a doubling of power. This indicator clearly indicates the reliability of the motor.

Weak spots

Car owners note several weaknesses of the motor. Their occurrence is provoked by both motorists and factory flaws.

A lot of trouble is caused by the water pump (pump) and the timing tensioner. These two nodes are distinguished by a low resource of work. As a rule, their failure leads to breakage or shearing of the teeth of the timing belt.

Further, events develop according to the classical scheme: valve bending - engine overhaul. Fortunately, after the modernization of the CPG in July 2018, the valves remain intact when the belt breaks, the engine simply stalls.

The next common malfunction is knocking in the unit when operating at idle speed. Most often they are caused by unadjusted thermal valve clearances. But both pistons and liners of the main or connecting rod journals of the crankshaft can knock. The exact address of the malfunction can be detected by engine diagnostics at a specialized service station.

Often worries the electrician of the motor. Complaints are caused by low-quality sensors, a high-voltage coil (ignition unit) and an unfinished Itelma ECU. Malfunctions in the electrician are characterized by floating idle speed, engine tripping. In addition, the motor sometimes just stalls while driving.

VAZ-11186 is prone to overheating. The culprit is a thermostat that is not very reliable.

Quite often there is oil leakage, especially from under the valve cover. In this case, tighten the cover fastening or replace its gasket.

Maintainability

The simple design of the internal combustion engine does not cause difficulties with its repair. The cast-iron cylinder block contributes to a complete overhaul.

Spare parts and remanufacturing parts are available at every specialist shop. When purchasing them, you should pay close attention to the manufacturer. Often counterfeit products are sold on the market. Especially the Chinese ones.

For high-quality repairs, you must use only original components.

Before starting the restoration of the unit, it will not be superfluous to consider the option of purchasing a contract engine. Sometimes such a purchase is cheaper than a major overhaul. The prices are set by the seller, but on average they range from 30 to 80 thousand rubles.

Summing up, it should be noted that the VAZ-11186 is quite highly quoted among car owners. The engine captivates with its simplicity, reliability and efficiency, as well as a fairly high mileage resource with its proper operation and timely maintenance.
