BMW 6 series engines

The sixth series of BMW is a business class coupe in the understanding of motorists. This line begins in 1975. If we talk about the real competitors of these BMWs, then perhaps we can name the Jaguar XK or the Lexus SC430. All the time, the Bavarian "six" came out in three body variations:

  • classic coupe with two doors;
  • coupe with four doors;
  • two-door convertible.

The car is strictly rear-wheel drive. There are versions with both automatic transmission and "mechanics". We can say that all generations of the sixth BMW series are very sporty, fast, daring and evil cars. They will never become massive on the roads, but they will always have their admirers who will never exchange them for something else.

E24

It all started with her. This is the first generation of the car, it was produced from 1975 to 1987. The car was equipped with powerful gasoline power units for that time. Under the hood, she could have a 2,8-liter M30B28LE engine (184 hp), a three-liter M30B30 (185 "horses"). In addition, there were especially powerful engines - these are the M30B33LE with a volume of 3,2 liters (197 or 200 horsepower, depending on the settings), the 3,4-liter M30B35M (185 or 218 "mares" with different engine modifications) and the M30B35 (3,5 .218 liters and 88 "horses"). But the top-end internal combustion engine on these machines was the M3 / 3,5, with 286 liters of volume, it could produce a solid XNUMX horsepower.

The updated "six" of the first generation lasted from 1987 to 1989. For this car, the manufacturer significantly reduced the line of power units, under the hood it could have one gasoline M30B35, mentioned above, but with different settings, now it could develop 211 or 220 horsepower.

E63

Between the first and second generations, the break turned out to be big, the second generation BMW 6 series car rolled off the assembly line in 2003 and was sold until 2007. It was a very modern model for those years. Under the hood, she could have one of three gasoline ICEs:

  • three-liter N52B30 (258 hp);
  • 4,4-liter N62B44 (333 "horses");
  • 4,7-liter N62B48 (367 horsepower).

The manufacturer showed the powerful character of the sixth series and since then the philosophy has not changed.

The update slightly modified the car and reduced the choice of powertrains and units to two. The first is the 3-liter N53B30 (in fact, it is a modification of the previously installed N52B30 engine), which produces 272 horsepower, and the second is the N62B48 with the pre-styling E63. The machine of this generation existed until 2010.

E64

Fashionable and stylish, even in our time it is relevant, it was produced in the period from 2004 to 2007. The differences between this car and its fellow E63 are only in the back (this option is a convertible). The power units for this car were offered exactly the same.

E64 restyling

This generation of the car was available from 2007 to 2010. This is the same restyling BMW E63, but only in the back of a convertible, the engines for it also migrated from there, we will not repeat ourselves, naming them.

F13

This is the third generation BMW of the sixth series, motorists could buy it in the manufacturer's showrooms from 2011 to 2015. A beautiful car, corresponding to the prestigious look of the Bavarian models of that time. The line of engines for this generation of cars consisted of three internal combustion engines:

On this generation, a "diesel" was installed for the first time on the sixth BMW.

F13 restyling

The model was updated in 2015, it was sold until 2018. The changes were not significant, but they are noticeable. The engines for this car migrated from the pre-styling version, the only change in the ICE line is an increase in power on the N63B44 to 450 horsepower.

F12

This is a brother of the F13 just reviewed, the difference from it lies only in the performance of the body, this car is a convertible. Under the hood, this car can have the already mentioned N57D30 or N63B44, as well as its own petrol N55HP (4,4 liters and 320 horsepower). "Diesel" decided not to put on the version with a folding roof.

F12 restyling

The car corresponds to the style of the F13 restyling, but only it is not in the coupe body, but in the cabriolet body. Only two engines were offered here: the gasoline N55B30 and N63B44 already known to us. It seems that the N55HP motor offered on the pre-styling model was not in great demand among buyers and was removed.

F06

This is the third generation of the sixth BMW series with four doors, which existed on the market from 2012 to 2015. They put exactly the same motors on it as on the two-door F13. It must be admitted that it is very unusual to see a BMW 6 not in the back of a convertible or two-door coupe, but judging by sales, this option also has a place to be.

F06 restyling

This is an update to the unusual sixth BMW series with four doors. It was designed in the corporate style of that time, and the engines for it completely copied the line for the restyled F13. This machine was available from 2015 to 2018.

The prevalence and reliability of BMW 6 engines

In general, it must be admitted that this car is very rare on the roads of Russia. It is not entirely practical and very expensive, usually wealthy people buy it second or third in the family, hence we can talk about the prevalence of engines relatively.

We immediately dismiss the first generation of the Bavarian “sixes”, because there are only a few of them not only in Russia, but throughout the world. And then everything is approximately stable, since all engines of subsequent generations can often be found on other BMW lines. Perhaps the rarest ICE of all is the N55HP.
