Fiat FIRE engines

The Fiat FIRE gasoline engine series has been produced since 1985 and during this time has acquired countless models and modifications.

Fiat FIRE 4-cylinder gasoline engines were first introduced back in 1985 and have become quite widespread in almost all models of the Italian concern. There are three modifications of these engines: atmospheric, turbocharged and with the MultiAir system.

Fiat FIRE atmospheric engines

In 1985, the 10-liter engine of the FIRE family debuted on the heel of the Autobianchi Y1.0, which eventually turned into a huge line of engines ranging from 769 to 1368 cm³. The first internal combustion engines came with a carburetor, and then versions with single injection or injector appeared.

The design for that time is typical: a 4-cylinder cast-iron block, a timing belt drive, an aluminum head could be an 8-valve with one camshaft without hydraulic lifters, and in newer versions a 16-valve with a pair of camshafts and hydraulic lifters. The most modern versions of the internal combustion engine had a phase regulator and a system for changing the intake geometry.

This family included a huge number of power units ranging from 769 to 1368 cm³:

0.8 SPI 8V (769 cm³ / 65 × 58 mm)

156A4000 ( 34 HP / 57 Nm )

Fiat T-Jet turbocharged engines

In 2006, a 1.4-liter turbo engine known as the 1.4 T-Jet appeared on the Grande Punto. This power unit is a 16-valve FIRE engine without dephaser, equipped with IHI RHF3 VL36 or IHI RHF3 VL37 turbines, depending on the specific version.

The line consisted of only a few turbocharged power units with a volume of 1.4 liters:

1.4 T-Jet (1368 cm³ / 72 × 84 mm)

198A1000 ( 155 HP / 230 Nm )
Fiat Bravo II, Grande Punto, Alfa Romeo MiTo

198A4000 ( 120 HP / 206 Nm )
Fiat Linea I, Doblo II, Lancia Delta III

Fiat MultiAir powertrains

In 2009, the most advanced FIRE modifications equipped with the MultiAir system appeared. That is, instead of the intake camshaft, an electro-hydraulic system was installed here, which made it possible to flexibly adjust the valve timing under computer control.

This line included atmospheric and supercharged power units with a volume of only 1.4 liters:

1.4 MPI (1368 cm³ / 72 × 84 mm)

955A6000 ( 105 HP / 130 Nm )
Fiat Grande Punto, Alfa Romeo MiTo
