Ford Duratec ST and RS engines

A series of Ford Duratec ST and RS sports engines were produced from 2002 to 2012 in naturally aspirated and supercharged versions.

A special series of Ford Duratec ST and RS sports engines existed from 2002 to 2012 and were installed on charged versions of such popular models as Focus, S-MAX and Mondeo. The first generation consisted of modified Zetec-E engines, and the second of the Volvo Modular engine.

In 2002, the popular Focus model had its own charged version with the ST170 index. The power plant of the novelty was a 2.0-liter internal combustion engine of the Zetec-E series, seriously redesigned by specialists from the Ford Special Vehicle Team together with the engineering company Cosworth. Compared to the stock EDDC unit, the ALDA ICE version has received many improvements: an intake manifold with a 2-stage geometry change system, an inlet dephaser, a sports exhaust manifold with an especially low resistance catalyst, an oil cooler. All this made it possible to increase the power of the internal combustion engine from 131 to 173 hp, and the torque from 178 to 196 Nm.

At the end of the same year, an even more charged version of the Focus model appeared under the RS index. Thanks to turbocharging, engine power was raised to 215 hp, torque up to 310 Nm.

The line included only a couple of power units, one atmospheric, the second turbocharged:

2.0 liters (1988 cm³ 84.8 × 88 mm) / atmospheric

2.0 liters (1988 cm³ 84.8 × 88 mm) / turbo

For the second generation of sports powertrains, the company has chosen the Volvo Modular engine. These are 5-cylinder, 20-valve, aluminum engines with a timing belt and turbocharging. The injection is distributed here, so these engines are not very demanding on fuel quality.

Essentially there was four different modifications such a turbo engine with a number of differences:

First version was a Volvo B5254T6 engine with a capacity of 200 hp 320 Nm.

Second version was a Volvo B5254T3 engine with a capacity of 220 hp 320 Nm.

The third version it is a hybrid of the B5254T3 and B5254T4 with a 16 hp BorgWarner K305 turbine.

Fourth version is a variant of the third, whose power was raised to 350 hp. and 460 Nm.

The power units of the line have the same volume, but different degrees of boost and power:
