Ford I4 DOHC engines
The Ford I4 DOHC engine line was produced at the Dagenham plant from 1989 to 2006 and was installed on both rear-wheel drive Scorpio and front-wheel drive Galaxy models. Also, these motors were quite actively installed on the company's commercial vehicles.
- First generation 8V
- Second generation 16V
Ford I8 DOHC 4-valve engines
The first engines of the new I4 DOHC family appeared at the end of the 80s of the last century, to replace Pinto engines on rear-wheel drive models with a longitudinal arrangement of the unit. The design was quite relevant for that time: an in-line cast-iron 4-cylinder block, an aluminum 8v head with two camshafts and hydraulic lifters, as well as a timing chain.
In addition to the injection versions of such a unit, there was also a carburetor modification N8A.
The first generation engines had a working volume of 2.0 liters and were installed on the Sierra and Scorpio. In 1995, it was slightly modified for installation on the Galaxy front-wheel drive minivan:
N8A (109 HP / 180 Nm) | Scorpio Mk1 |
N9A (120 HP / 171 Nm) | Scorpio Mk1 |
N9C (115 hp / 167 Nm) | Saw Mk1 |
NSD (115 hp / 167 Nm) | Scorpio Mk2 |
NSE (115 hp / 170 Nm) | Galaxy Mk1 |
ZVSA (115 hp / 170 Nm) | Galaxy Mk1 |
Ford I16 DOHC 4-valve engines
In 1991, a 2000-valve version of this engine debuted on the Ford Escort RS16 model, redesigned for a transverse arrangement, as it was installed on a front-wheel drive car. Soon, a 2.3-liter modification of such an engine was under the hood of the Galaxy minivan.
There is also a modification for rear-wheel drive models, such a motor is found on Scorpio 2.
This line included many engines, but we have chosen only the most popular of them:
N3A (136 HP / 175 Nm) | Scorpio Mk2 |
N7A (150 HP / 190 Nm) | Escort Mk5, Escort Mk6 |
Y5A (147 hp / 202 Nm) | Scorpio Mk2 |
Y5B (140 HP / 200 Nm) | Galaxy Mk1 |
E5SA (145 hp / 203 Nm) | Galaxy Mk1 |
