Honda Odyssey engines
Content
Odyssey is a 6-7-seater Japanese minivan, which is equipped with an all-wheel drive system or has front-wheel drive. The car has been produced since 1995 to the present and has five generations. The Honda Odyssey has been produced since 1999 in two versions6 for the Asian and North American markets. And only since 2007 it began to be implemented on the territory of Russia.
History of the Honda Odyssey
This car was born in 1995 and was designed on the basis of the Honda Accord, from which some suspension parts, transmission, and engine were borrowed. It was even developed at the production facilities of the Honda Accord.
This model was developed mainly for the North American market, as evidenced by the impressive dimensions of the car. Distinctive characteristics of the Honda Odyssey are precise steering, a low center of gravity and an energy-intensive suspension - all this made it possible to infuse sporty features into the car. In addition, Odyssey, starting from the first generation, is equipped exclusively with an automatic transmission.
The first version of the Honda Odyssey
The first version of the Odyssey was based on the car of the same company - Accord, which is also equipped with four doors and a rear trunk lid. In various variations of the model, there are six or seven seats, which are located in 3 rows. A design feature of the cabin is the 3rd row of seats folded under the floor, which can significantly increase comfort. With its large body width, the Odyssey is made in an understated style, which allowed him to gain immense popularity in the Japanese market.
As for the technical characteristics, the Odyssey was equipped exclusively with a 22-liter F2,2B gasoline inline engine. After the restyling that took place in 1997, the F22A engine replaced the F23B. In addition, a prestige package was offered, which had a three-liter J30A power unit in its arsenal.
Below are the characteristics of the internal combustion engine installed on the first version of the Odyssey:

The second version of the Honda Odyssey
This generation was the result of improvements to the previous version of the Odyssey. The structure of the body included 4 hinged doors and a tailgate opening up. As in the previous version, the Odyssey was equipped with front and all-wheel drive, and was also equipped with two engines: F23A and J30A.

In 2001, the Honda Odyssey underwent some changes. In particular, the release of an underestimated version called "Absolute" was adjusted. Front and rear automatic climate control, a separate interior heater for the third row, xenon optics were added. The quality of finishing materials has been improved.
Third version of the Honda Odyssey
The car was released in 2003 and won no less popularity than its predecessors. It was built on a completely new platform, which was close to the Accord model of those times. The body still has not suffered global changes, only its height has changed to 1550 mm. The suspension of the car became much stronger and at the same time was compact. Due to its even larger lowered body, the Odyssey turned out to be more aggressive and became in appearance on a par with sports station wagons.
The third generation was equipped only with in-line four-cylinder engines, which had more sporty characteristics that were not typical for minivans. The following are its detailed technical parameters:
ICE name | K24A |

The fourth version of the Honda Odyssey
This car was created on the basis of the previous generation restyling. The appearance has been changed, and driving performance has also been improved. In addition, Odyssey was equipped with such safety systems as dynamic cruise control, directional stability, assistance at the exit to the intersection and during parking, as well as preventing the departure from the lane.
The power unit remained the same, having added some power, now its figure is 173 hp. In addition, a special sports version "Absolute" is still being produced, which has a more aerodynamic body and lighter wheels. Its motor is also distinguished by increased power - 206 hp. However, it is worth noting that in the all-wheel drive modification of the car, both the power indicators and the amount of torque are somewhat lower.
Fifth version of the Honda Odyssey
The fifth creation of the Odyssey from Honda debuted in 2013. The car was developed within the framework of the previous concept, but at the same time improved in all respects. The appearance of the car turned out to be truly Japanese, bright and expressive. The salon has expanded somewhat, and now the Odyssey can have 7 or 8 seats.
In the basic configuration, the new generation Honda Odyssey is equipped with a 2,4-liter engine, which is offered in several boost options. A hybrid version with a two-liter engine is also offered, paired with two electric motors. Together, this system has a capacity of 184 hp.

Choosing a Honda Odyssey engine
The car was originally conceived as a sports minivan, as evidenced by its engine lineup, suspension and transmission design features, and appearance. Therefore, the best power unit for this car will be one that has a large volume, and hence a resource. Despite the fact that the engines installed on the Odyssey declare their “voracity” in terms of displacement, in fact they differ in a good level of efficiency in their segment. All Honda engines are famous for their reliability and long service life, therefore they do not cause any problems to the owner if he performs maintenance in a timely manner and does not save on consumables, including engine oil. It is worth noting that in our country, the most widespread among the engines installed on the Honda Odyssey are those that have the smallest working volume. This is to say that for our car owners the main characteristic of the motor is its efficiency.
