The Lambda engine family includes 6-cylinder power plants with different displacements. All motors are equipped with a timing chain drive. The largest internal combustion engine in the series is the 3,8-liter G6DA. Later, already in the Lambda 2 series, another such voluminous and more powerful unit was released - G6DJ.

The Lambda 1 and 2 family of units is equipped with two types of injection: direct GDI and distributed MPI. All engines are powered by gasoline, have a V-shaped design of the cylinder block. Motors are installed on Hyundai/Kia premium models: Genesis, Grander, Ekus.

Engines have been manufactured since 2008 and have the following features:

  • V-shaped design of the cylinder block (6 cylinders);
  • 4 camshafts arranged according to the new QOHC scheme;
  • two types of injection;
  • dual timing control system D-CVVT.

The timing chain drive does not require maintenance, according to the manufacturer, but it is recommended to regularly monitor its condition.

Noteworthy are other characteristic features of the Lambda series motors:

  • they are made of aluminum alloy;
  • equipped with a plastic intake manifold that can optimize fuel consumption under unequal loads;
  • equipped with mechanical valve clearance adjusters for a more compact cylinder head design - no hydraulic lifters;
  • in order to reduce noise, a crankcase balance shaft is provided;
  • poly-V self-tensioning belts are used as a cooling drive, power steering and a number of additional systems;
  • in order to reduce vibrations, new ICE cushions are used, consisting of 3 passive units with regulators and solenoid valves.

A large member of the family, the 3,8-liter G6DA develops up to 260 horsepower at 6000 rpm, while its US version develops 4 horsepower. With. more. G6DJ develops up to 360 hp. With.

Model G6DA

3,8-liter unit, produced since 2005. It is installed mainly on large sedans, full-size minivans and heavy SUVs. Develops power of 260-264 hp. With. Family engine malfunctions

  • over time, piston rings may lie due to soot, after which oil burn and waste begin;
  • direct injection engines suffer from accelerated carbon formation;
  • can turn the crankshaft liners due to low oil level;
  • it is necessary to adjust the thermal clearances of the valves manually every 70-80 thousand kilometers, since there are no automatic hydraulic compensators - this procedure at the service station is considered one of the most expensive;
  • attachment belts may wear out ahead of time;
  • possible floating speed due to clogged throttle.

Oil recommendation

For 6-cylinder Korean power units, it is recommended to periodically pour oils with a viscosity of 5W-20 or 5W-30. As for the lubricant class, all modern API and ILSAC for gasoline are suitable. However, I would like to point out a few important points.

  1. 5W-20 is no better than 5W-30 - almost the same oils that are recommended for these engines not only by the manufacturer, but also by experienced users.
  2. The composition must be updated strictly after 5-6 or, in extreme cases, 7 thousand kilometers, if the main operation of the machine takes place on the territory of the Russian Federation. We have expensive bad and dirty gasoline.
  3. ACEA A1 oils are the most efficient.

Synthetic oils are persistent compounds that do not lose their properties for a long time, they also have good washing abilities. True, their disadvantage is the high cost, but it will pay off in the course of operation.

Sean CharlieI don’t presume to say for sure, but one of the main problems when a gasoline engine does not start in the cold is poor evaporation of gasoline vapors at low temperatures. As a result, in most cases (as I understand in your case too), the spark plugs are filled, and then gasoline fills the cylinders (depending on how long you turn the starter). On many engines (I don’t know about the 3.3 on Sorika) there is a “cylinder purging” mode - before turning on the ignition, you need to fully depress the accelerator pedal and turn the starter for several seconds (keep the pedal pressed all the way). In this mode, fuel is not supplied to the engine, and the remaining gasoline leaves the cylinders. True, “blowing through” may not help if the spark plugs then fail to produce a spark. In this case, the spark plugs must be unscrewed and either calcined or replaced with new ones. Another side effect: the “blown” gasoline from the cylinders goes into the exhaust system, and then burns there, which is completely unfavorable for the catalytic converter.
